Sure, you get 40 a week off your taxes, but what is it costing our SS fund? 40 per week x 52 weeks x 150 million working Americans = $312,000,000,000 per year. Hm. Seems like a lot of money being shorted to the program that is supposed to be funding current draws. Interesting. 2) If we are having a serious discussion, why isn’t each issue having its own bill, and its own vote? The “doc fix” shouldn’t be used as a hostage/leverage tool against the SS tax “vacation.” The unemployment extension/retention should not be used as a leverage against this tax thing either. Each issue should have its own bill/vote. Vote on its merits. Wrapping everything together is like wrapping garbage loans into MBS’s and risks bringing the whole system down. It also eliminates the ability for one side or the other to score political points by saying, “So and so voted against extending unemployment benefits” when in reality they were voting against the SS robbery that’s going on. Sigh So many things that make common sense that aren’t partisan that aren’t even considered. That’s why I want to fire ’em all (including president O) and start over from the ground up. Term limits, constitutional amendment to restrict spending except in a time of congressionally-declared war, and restricting of the ability for special interests to impact policy-making decisions. We all have bills to pay, and we all have to work within our means to pay those bills. Well, most of us do. Why should our government be any different?

Compare getting INTO wars, and missing your target, versus getting your target, and getting OUT OF wars. Think about it.
Honestly, I think he’s showing his frustration that conservatives criticized (and continue to do so) Bush and our own republican establishment for going against what’s in the best interests of our country, but liberals are giving Obama and his ilk a huge pass without really criticizing him. It’s the perpetual, “It’s Bush’s fault,” Or “He inhereted this mess.” Guess what? Bush inhereted 9/11, and he still turned it around inside 2 years with the help of Congress. And people say that Obama’s smarter than Bush (which… given speech patterns they are right), so why can’t he get a handle on things? Personally, I’m just as frustrated. He also cut funding to regulatory agencies like the Deparment of Agriculture, which is why you had Mad Cow and other diseases break out. And remember Katrina (no he did not cause the hurricane quit with the strawman) where he gutted FEMA and the slow response in New Orleans. Then there’s the two wars he got us into (and never looked back). And don’t forget the round of tax cuts for the rich which crippled our gubbermint. The list of his idiocies is long and consistent with right wing ideology, which includes expanding big gubbermint (TSA).
Complaining about vacations is idiotic, they all deserve some time off and the Secret Service and military are the ones who determine “security” measures needed. However, I don’t agree with many of the things Obama has done, mostly by being to “giving” and not fighting hard enough for truly good legislation from Congress. When it comes to “W” and America’s true values however, he failed on every account. His dad at least passed the ADA and some few other pieces of appropriate legislation, but then declared war, stupidly, on Panama. Yes, Virginia, their IS a difference!
Thank you for your measured response Fennec. I’m not saying you specifically blame Bush; I’m saying the rabid majority of liberals do without looking at the problems within their own houses. Yes, Bush screwed up many times. But so has Obama, and it’s about time he gets called on it.
