Flask, your plans are all being thwarted by your own “team” members. Looks like you’re no longer on the same team as them.

Her love for Petey might have gotten canned But Wally is committed to his stance By now Flask’s got a rather painful hand And painful heart. Will she give him a chance? Or will she snarl and leap and rend to shreds Our guy, like anything that’s in her way? He’s resolute, but this is what he dreads It’s far more what she’ll do than what she’ll say =|====/ Level Head Vote for Endtown 2.0 And for Doc Rat, too The Endtown Forum

Of course, if Flask’s gun is like all the other TS’ers guns, it will only work in her hands anyway.

And I am left wondering what, exactly, is going through Flask’s mind, and I mean that seriously. I get that she has a real hate-on for Topsiders, but why? It has to stem from something OTHER than the usual Topsider-Mutie unpleasantness.

Remember, back when Holly and Wally encountered Linda and wassizname, and confiscated both of their guns, did they make the mistake of KEEPING the two TS guns? Because it’d be a real shame if one of those two guns had opened up a channel to the other Topsiders and was relaying their conversation as they spoke. Because now would an inconvenient time for the TSers to arrive and tin can everyone.

Way back, when Wally left a topsider unconscious but alive, the topsider repaid the kindness by killing Ally’s two friends. When the two topsiders captured Wally and Holly a short time ago and were preparing to cut their brains out, they were making snide and cruel jokes about giving them consecutive serial numbers. When our heroes invaded the launch site they encountered literally hundreds of robots, each run by a brain brutally cut out of someone’s head.Everything we’ve seen about the topsiders shows them to be cruel and vicious bastards, caring only for themselves — even the newly transformed koala has expressed concern only for other topsiders. And Flask is the villain?!You people have a seriously screwed up sense of morality.

@zbekric: The topsiders kill mutants.Mutants kill topsiders.Flask kills anyone including her own. I’m surprised the jackrabbit hasn’t had an “accident” by now.

@Arcaton I haven’t seen Flask kill anyone except topsiders.@DADOF3 This is a really good argument. If that were the case, I’d agree with you. Unfortunately, there’s been nothing in the strip to suggest that it is the case.If anything, what we’ve seen so far suggests that the topsiders resources are as limited as Endtown’s. The fact that they need so many robots suggests that their numbers are limited and the fact characters like Wally could survive for so long on the surface suggests that topsider bases are few and far between. The territory between those bases would be vast and, except for the occasional patrol, uncontrolled.Given that, it could be argued that by eliminating this particular topsider enclave, Flask would expand the amount of uncontrolled territory significantly, thus buying Endtown a whole bunch of time. Further, by making it look like the destruction was caused by the base’s own misfired rocket, the other bases could see it as an accident and make only a token investigation. They’d have no reason to suspect the existence of Endtown.Of course, the actions of Petey and Wally have pretty much screwed up that plan, making it almost certain that the topsiders will become aware of the existence of Endtown. And, given the character traits the topsiders have displayed so far, that’s likely to bring about the very destruction of Endtown you describe.

Dad You are assuming the topsiders are the larger force. What if there really isn’t that many? There could be only a couple of TS outposts. Yes, they have the technology and they have the mutts and others but there may not be as many as you presume.

Flask has “sweatles” over her head in all 4 panels and Wally is a left hander. Gettysberg was lost 1st by Gen Early not commanding the heights and 2nd by Gen Lee attacking the heights.

Given Flask’s rank (oh SO rank) would this count as mutiny? “Mr Wallechinsky! I’ll see you hang from the highest gantry in Endtown for this nights work!”

I think Mallard outranks Flask. In any case, he’d protect the team from Flask like he did with Al and Gustine.

Aaron, forgive me if this question has been addressed before, but the characters here seem to be mostly left handed. Is that intentional? Does it have something to do with cartooning in general, or is it simply a personal preference?

Poor Flask… Everyone is against her….On one hand, Flask’s past is unknown right now, so her reasons for wanting to destroy the outpost may be (at least to a certain degree) justifyable. On the other hand, destroying the outpost will only give the Topsiders a brand new reason to go after the mutants, when all the mutants really want to do is live in peace…and eat something other than beans..I’ve read this story from the beginning, and I haven’t seen anyone who WANTED to be mutated. Sure, the Topsiders have found ways to protect themselves from the global virus, but at least the mutants don’t have to worry about rips in their clothing..By showing mercy, they will show Linda that the mutants do not have to be her enemies just because they don’t look human anymore. YEAH, I know… I’m sounding like Charles Xavier (X-Men), but he has a point.

My first thought was that this isn’t the first time Wally’s gun has surprised Flask (See 2011/11/09). Many have made comments defending Flask’s actions — this is war afterall — however, I think in this case, Aaron designs us to take the moral high road, and most of us readily agree. To quote from Feb. 5, 2009, “The things I do to keep a clear conscience…”

We don’t know if the TS have any idea how many “communities’ there are. We do know that Doug and Linda were expecting to encounter mutants in the area of the rocket; in fact Wally and Holly were not the first. (”How many this time?") Bottom line, the TS know there are mutant communities out there within walking distance of the rocket complex. I doubt they know or care what the mutants call their bunkers. Just because they believed they destroyed one of them doesn’t mean they now think there are no more nearby.

My opinion in the end, if the Mutants want to be able to look in the mirror at the end of the day (aside from becoming a complete sociopath like Flask), you have to remain the good guys/gals. And sometimes it’s a pain to be one of the white hats.
