And Shelley said last night she wants to build a double fence.Seriously, though, we are the last country that should be building a new Iron Curtain.

Just remind the Repubs that the federal government would have to spend umpty billions of dollars to actually build this thing. They’ll bag the idea so fast, you’ll catch cold from the breeze.

Being illegal doesn’t always make it wrong. Remember, there was a time when it was illegal for a slave to escape.

Perry has done more to increase illegal immigration than any prior governor in Texas.

Funny, when I proposed doing that across the northern border of Florida, to keep the Yankees out, I got laughed at.

Does this mean Ronald Reagan, ( who gave amnesty to illegals ) is NOT your hero any more?

Does this also mean you’re going to give a high five to Barack Obama, who increaded the number of illegals being deported over the number deported under his predecessor?

It’s just simplistic to assume that we are talking about “supporting” illegal immigration. The actual conversation is about Human Rights and compassion, but it is being discussed only among those who have removed the blinders and earplugs. Your comment just reveals your ignorance.

We won’t secure the borders even if another 9-11 happens that’s traceable to Mexico. It would be bad for business.

Most Japanese in Hawaii were not rounded up and put in camps like those on the mainland, even though the attack happened at Pearl harbor. The reason? Economics.

The reason nobody talks about real immigration control with Mexico is also economics,

Yes, they;re illegal immigrants. Does that mean they should get the death penalty without benefit of a trial?

BTW, fast food places, like Godfather’s Pizza, tend to be magnets for undocumented workers.

Post 9/11 waste and fraud on building the fence we’ve got, and new policies, have devastated wildlife populations and daily trade across the border where social interaction was historically dependent on free passage back and forth. These constructions and policies have done next to nothing in stopping illegal entry, of either people or drugs. Stupid is as stupid did.

Illegal IS illegal and “undocumented” IS illegal- so start busting the employers and others on THIS side of the border who do their activities “in the closet”- the one with glass doors anyone giving a “crop” can see through.

If the laws aren’t functioning, maybe it makes sense to change them and go back to the ones we had that WERE working much better? Like green cards, short-term work visas for “seasonal” workers, etc? Taxing these workers and sending them back home with their earnings makes sense.

To the ‘toon, why not just go to thermal or other imaging for triggering claymores and mines aimed at humans that won’t harm wildlife, like jaguars? If human “coyotes” cross the border, why not turn them into food for real coyotes and critters having a hard time “making a living” on the desert with all the habitat damage we’ve done trying to stop illegal human activities?

@Troutma “If the laws aren’t functioning, maybe it makes sense to change them and go back to the ones we had that WERE working much better? fuzzy, you might want to review that Constitution with regard to judicial responsibilities and who IS the supreme law of the land? Okay, granted, other than some really pretty country, who would want to cross into Utah for the “social construct” of that state? Yep, they’ve got a real border problem with Mexico, and Bosnia, and Antarctica.

If you think we let capitol move freely from country to country, try smuggling over $10,000 in undeclared cash across the border. We are, after all, talking about smuggling labor into the country. Capitol does move relatively freely from country to country, but it does so within the laws of those countries, and so should labor. The reasons countries (or blocks of countries such as the EU) regulate their external borders should be obvious to you. The reasons include the ability to levy taxes, enforce labor laws designed to protect the laborer, and halt illegal activities such as drug smuggling, terrorism and sexual slavery, barring the entrance of violent criminals, etc.

I have no problems with migrant labor, and like the idea of worker visas. What I have problems with is the current system of exploitation.

You need to do a little research.

Bowie became a naturalized Mexican citizen when he arrived in Texas prior to the revolution and he lived on one of several land grants the Mexican government sold to Anglo speculators.

Crocket and his men entered Texas during the revolution and immediately swore an oath of allegiance to the provisional government they came to fight for.

Most current Anglo residents of Texas do not descend from families that were in Texas before the revolution, and those that do are not necessarily descended from illegal immigrants. Your claim that most Anglo Texans today descend from illegal immigrants from that time is false.
