Ms. Wingit: Truthfully, I LOVE teaching middle-school kids. They're so...INTERESTING!
Ms. Wingit: They're all just...pudgy bundles of potential!
Ms. Wingit: Although some of them smell funny.
Val: Who's teaching hygiene this year?
Yeah, the budget for athletics is ALWAYS the last to be cut, especially since everyone seems to think that sports is more important than a proper education.
I had no prob being hugged by my junior high teachers back in the late 70s (some of them were pretty hot), but Ms. Wingit’s hug in panel 2 could get her arrested in 2011…
Choke hold. Here locally some sports did get cut not football. Driver’s Ed no more. Not sure all the cuts. Major learning is still going. Some small towns have gone to lap tops for student’s instead of text books.
LOL! My sister is having to teach my 9 and 11 year old niece and nephew to use deodorant already. Smells like a locker room in their room, when it seems like yesterday when it smelled like baby powder.
Hows this for cutbacks,, they are closing my daughters high school completely! announced it last week,, says lack of enrollment, making them merge with other 4 schools in town which means, friends won’t be with friends next semester. The building is historical and beautiful, I say, the board sold it to condo development! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peterborough_Collegiate_and_Vocational_School
Last time I was in Duval County, Florida (that’s Jacksonville), the local newspaper reported that all school sports except football and basketball were in danger of being cut. From what I can gather from Google, the “lesser” sports were saved for this year, but are still in jeopardy.
My middle schooler got into my car after basketball practice last night. We had to roll the windows down. When did my sweet smelling boy turn into a stinky young man? snif
Depends on the schools. Our elementary and middle schools no longer have any form of organized sports. Just gym classes. They chose to cut sports in favor of smaller class sizes. At least there are a few reasonable thinking schools out there still.

ALL middle-school teachers are de facto hygiene teachers, unless you want your classroom to smell like 12-year-old.

In the Christian school I attended, daily hygiene, breath mints, and clenliness were a MUST.

Some of the people I went to high school with were smokers, and they always smelled like cheap tobacco no matter how much they scrubbed.

That is completely wrong. Middle school kids anger me. They think they are grown up.
