Actually, it’s “Ygor” not “Igor” and “Ygor” wasn’t a hunchback but a shepard with a broken neck who “stole bodie…they said.” The hunchback assistant to Frankenstein was Fritz played by Dwight Frye who was later hanged with his whip by Boris Karloff’s Monster. Ygor was played by Bela Lugosi and this guy doesn’t look like either of them, but the popular misconception that “Igor” is today.
either that, or like me, they’ve read a lot of Terry Pratchett! he’s got a whole rather large family of Igors from Uberwald. he doesn’t have enough thumbs to be a proper Igor though.
It’s definitely my interpretation of Fritz. Fritz was a much darker character in the movie, so I gave him sort of a happy-go-lucky facial expression, they way that LIO would see the fringe of society.
He’s got to learn to spell hi own name. His sign should read, “Hello, my name is …Sam A Terry” Is he any relation to Abby Normal, from Franhkensteen’s basement? They look like they might be cousins or something.
SherlockWatson: I had Young Frankenstein on my mind too. And now you’ve inspired me to pull out that DVD again…;)
Mark: You remind me of what I love about being able to read cartoons on the Internet, having been a cartoon fan for thirty years or so…I’m 39; I started young with an enduring love of “Peanuts.” :) Here on the ‘Net, I can actually communicate with the people who write and draw my favorite cartoons! And both Lio and Heart of the City have turned into two of my favorites - thank you so much for that!

No, it’s Igor, I’m pretty sure.
Check out the hood ornament on Lio’s trike. Memento mori?

Pacejv - glad I’m not the only one who thought of Pet Semetary. But for me, it was the theme from the movie getting stuck in my head….

Mark, I’m giving your book to 25 yr old son for Christmas. Amazingly, he isn’t familiar!
As always, love the strip!
mtatulli Premium Member over 14 years ago
Haha …that’s funny! A 25-year-old unfamiliar with a newspaper comic strip? That’s incredibly normal these days.
Thanks for exposing him and supporting my strip!

I want to say something clever here, but all I can think of right now is Peter Boyle belting out, “Puttin’ on da riiiiiitz!!”

Merrymarg, Quasimodo is the bell ringer of Notre-Dame. You’re thinking of Victor Frankenstein’s aide Igor.
