There was a park down the block from where I grew up that used to be a popular spot before the river got too polluted for swimming. It had been abandoned since the 1930s and completely overgrown. It’s still pretty much the same way now, even more years later, and I still visit there from time to time. It’s “Abandoned by man, swallowed by weeds (and trees)…”, but not quite lost to man. There never were any rumors of ghostly canoeists or swimmers, but I’m worried that someday people from outside the neighborhood (or, worse yet, developers) will “discover” it, or that it will be “rehabilitated” into a manicured, tamed foo-foo garden. As it is now, it’s 25 acres of woodsy paradise.
