If anyone is looking for Luddie, he’ll be under the bed until further notice.

My dad used to celebrate finding a cat in the factory by throwing it into his forge and letting its hammer fall.

I have read Arlo and Janis for many years, but I’m having having trouble understanding the strip today, June 24th. Why would you want to give anyone the idea of tossing live cats onto huge bonfires? And then suggesting someone google the idea? Makes me sick knowing there will be some who will delight in this “new” idea. Isn’t this world cruel enough to animals? I’m SO disappointed with Jimmy Johnson.

Google IT? I’d like to forget I ever heard it. My little puddins are members of my family and I could not even begin to think of killing any living animal that is so a part of my life. That’s why I’m not a farmer. I only eat meat and plants because if I didn’t eat something, I’d die. And I eat meat sparingly and try to get it from as humane a source as possible with animals living a good life and the only suffering coming in the process of “processing” at the end.

This isn’t even a funny strip. Jimmy J, lets try for something more funny, or at least something that shows people treating people, animals, plants or the world in a better way than our fore bearers if you cannot say anything funny. (and before anyone says that he is treating the cat better than his fore bearers (if he is Parisian, that is), note the cat’s reaction; that is not treating the cat any better than the Parisians. It is mental cruelty instead of physical cruelty since the cat obviously understands what Arlo said…).

Oh great, let’s give all the sickos out there more ideas on how to mistreat animals — that’s just what we need! I agree with GES Who — this isn’t even funny. There was no need to share this disgusting information in a comic strip. You should be able to come up with better ideas than that, Jimmy! Thumbs down!

Not funny, Mr. Johnson! The cruelty that animals in general and cats in particular have suffered by the hands of ignorant humans over the eons is horrifying. People of this mentality don’t do anything to better society and really don’t deserve a place on this Earth. Your silly attempt at trival humor falls terribly short – not a pleasant or welcome introduction to your comic strip.

Oh for Pete’s sake! It just amuses Arlo to pretend to tease the cat!He knows that except for a few times a year when he’s obviously an anthropomorphic cartoon character, Luddie doesn’t understand more than a few words, and just enjoys the sound of his voice.

He loves his cat! He’s just laughing at the notion that Luddie is running to the computer to prove him a liar.

susanshine, if he had not said “Google It,” I might not have been AS upset about this as I was. And to Charlie D, I’m not relaxing. I wonder what either of you would have thought if Ludwig was a child & Arlo talked about child sacrifice. Would that just be “teasing?”

Sheesh. people who do those things don’t read A & J. The humor is in the idea that the A-man could get Luddie worked up. Can’t you just see little paw prints on the keyboard? Take a pill. dd

Please, everybody, calm down. The joke is based on our knowledge that Luddie doesn’t really understand Arlo’s one-sided conversations, he just seems to. When he jumps down for whatever reason and Arlo responds with the punchline, did you really think Luddie was heading for the computer?

As for promoting violence towards cats, I’m sure any reasonable person would agree that A&J is probably the most pro-cat American comic strip ever published. Other strips that include cats usually make you hate them, at least a little. This strip LOVES Ludwig. And honestly, can you imagine reading a news story about someone who performed some grave injustice against an animal, saying they got the idea from a COMIC STRIP?

Personally, I laughed out loud. I was already familiar (no pun intended) with mediæval attitudes toward felines, as any reasonably well read person would be. A reference to the role of cats in old St. John’s Day traditions, followed by the uproarious “googling cat” line, was a brilliant way to inspire historical curiosity with just three clever panels.

Kudos, JJ, and please don’t apologize.
