Why not? We have no objection to freshmen in the pros raking in the big bucks.Seriously, this silly amateur nonsense has gone on long enough. Admit that US collegiate basketball and football are professional sports, pay the players what the market will bear and have done with it. Incorporate the collegiate teams as independent entities “representing” the schools so that students aren’t stuck with tuition increases, and let the alumni hand over whatever they want. The athletes can attend classes or not, as they feel like.

Make the NBA and NFL set up minor leagues, like baseball has. Anyone who wants to turn pro right out of High School can do so, and the college teams can go back to being for student athletes. Put the “scholarship” back in athletic scholarships…

total agreement with Ravenswing. Good idea. Take the lies and hypocrisy out of college sports. Turn Div 1 back into real student athletes, just like div 3

Fritzoid, I think the NBA has a minor league now, though I am not sure what the criteria is for playing in it.
