Stone Soup by Jan Eliot Val: What a GORGEOUS swimming hole! Holly: It looks dirty. Val: It's natural! Holly: The stones hurt my feet! Alix: Wear FLIP-FLOPS! Holly: There are BUGS in here! Alix: Waterskippers! Alix: Aren't you staying in? Holly: Not on your life! Who knows what I might catch swimming in that water! Alix: Isn't that the POINT?! Val: Ooh! Nice crawdad. Holly: NICE? Nice is a chlorinated pool and a FRAPPUCCINO!

Haven’t you ever had to check yourself for bloodsucking leeches? Maybe she has.. and found one OR MORE (I know I have - ewww). I know they can be used in a medical situation, but I’d be closing my eyes during the procedure.
I would still dive in though - it’s hot outdoors & the water looks so inviting. Enjoy your holiday weekend (and have someone else look between your toes when you get out of the water).

I’m with Holly, I wouldn’t want to get in that dirty water with the creepies in it. I guess we’re just spoiled.

Sorry, I’m also with Holly; and as for camping, if God had wanted me to camp, he wopuldnot have invented hotels.

Kids don’t know the world the way we saw it. My daughter asked her youngest son (13) to take the dog for a walk around the yard and he said ” What’s a yard?” But he knows what tweet, twitter, texting and omg are. It’s sort of sad:(

I never did like the feel of slimy rocks under my feet. Good enough to watch the water-skippers by the side of the brook. Me, I preferred to swim in my own lightly-chlorinated pool.

Just got back from two days camping in the mountains. Went through creeks and ponds, loving seeing all of the creatures listed above. The Zen of it is something that will forever, all too sadly, be lost on Holly.

If God had not wanted us to go backpacking, he/she would not have invented tents, sleeping bags, backpacks, etc…!

I’ll take a running river over some pool that 101 little Max like creatures have been peeing in anyday.
