Hobbes is very adverse to being scared.

Good one Calvin. Just goes to show , that you should never try to scare a tiger.

Bonus points though for actually sneaking up on Hobbes. But take away points for not predicting the outcome.

Don’t you know, Calvin ? You have to stalk your prey and then pounce on it, not announce your arrival. What happened to that training you received, to become a tiger ?

That’s what he gets for scaring one of nine lives out of Hobbes.

Love that image of Hobbes in panel 9! But we all know cats are the soul of suave and collected calmness.

I like Hobbes sitting under the chair cushion in the third panel, how he looks with his eyes! I wonder, he fits under the cushion!

Yep, Hobbes always wins in the end. Even when it doesn’t appear that way early on.

My cats are as lazy as Garfield if not lazier. You could sneak up on them but they would give you a quick look then go back to sleep.

He lies in wait like a lion in cover; he lies in wait to catch the helpless; he catches the helpless and drags them off in his net.

His victims are crushed, they collapse; they fall under his strength.

He says to himself, “God has forgotten; he covers his face and never sees.”

Arise, LORD! Lift up your hand, O God. Do not forget the helpless.

Why does the wicked man revile God? Why does he say to himself, “He won’t call me to account”?

But you, O God, do see trouble and grief; you consider it to take it in hand. The victim commits himself to you; you are the helper of the fatherless.

    Psalm 10:9-14

Anyone remember the SF zoo Christmas incident with the white Bengal tiger? 3 guys were taunting it (him?) for at least 20 minutes (reconstructed from witnesses), with the tiger lashing its tail and pacing. Suddenly, it paces to the back of the pen, accelerates, and leaps over the containing wall, fence, and moat. The 3 guys and everyone else take off running and screaming, but the tiger pursues only those 3 guys, catches them quickly, and gives each a good rake with its claws - but not killing them. Then it just walks quietly away.

One of the guys dies from his wounds, and the police were out of tranquillizer darts and shot the tiger through the head. (It was a rare and endangered variety too.)

I had a cat once who liked to walk with me in the dark – only he would stalk and attack the sounds my shoes made as I walked. Couldn’t break him of the habit, until I just started lifting my shoe a bit and let him run into the sole.

He did it twice more, getting a bit dazed and shaking his head, and after that he kept walking along prim and proper, “Who me? Somebody attacked your foot? Really now!”

Never did it again though. :-)
