We’re not losing. It’s just going to take generations to make any noticable progress in Afghanistan. It’s not a question of can we do it. It’s a question of do we have the committment to get it done.

We should really compare this situation to the one in Germany after WWII or in Korea. We made a differance in both places. But it took us 50 years to do it. Are we ready to go through that again?

This is exactly how we got the intel on who to send to Gitmo. It is very probably the same for predator strikes. Charlie Wilson didn’t buy a single uniform, he gave them stingers. Why should Afghans “get past the 16th century” when they kicked out the Russians, and “militarily” aren’t doing that bad today?

Even in a cartoon, the simple-minded reporters are creating negative propaganda headlines for their benefit. So Grokenstein (and those like you), where did you uncover these facts? They’re not facts? We held a force in Germany called the US Constabulary until the early 50’s due to insurgent activity. It was the Constabulary’s duty to prevent outbreaks of violence. There are many recorded examples of Germans who were not happy with the way the war ended. Many feared another treaty like the Versailles Treaty which screwed Germany for years after WWI. Much of the violence occured along Germany’s southern border with Italy. For example there were many clashes with Serb forces who wanted payback for Nazi violence in the Balkans. You do have a good point about the differance between fighting a government, such as Germany, and fighting the Taliban. Since we are not fighting a government we can’t really call what is going on a war. Which, technically, makes us a bunch of illegal invaders. Which is just what they’re calling us. This is another good example of why we need a Constitutional convention and fix the countless things wrong with the government today. The country is fine, the government is our problem.
