As long as it doesn’t start glowing, I’m ok.

Folks, I know I’ve joked before about how long the strip has to last (counting down until the expiration of my contract), but I need to be completely serious right now.

Due to circumstances beyond my control, the strip is probably going to come to an end very soon.

Back in 2007 I had three surgeries which, thanks to my losing my insurance earlier in the year, socked me for $250,000 in medical bills, devastating most of my savings. This started my major problems.

In December 2008 my mother’s house was destroyed in a fire. She had no insurance and no savings, and thanks to the medical bills neither of us had the credit to get a mortgage, so most of what was left of my savings went to put a roof over her head in an emergency.

These two events compounded the problems I had been having with my own mortgage, and I received word yesterday that a foreclosure on our house has been completed. Unless we can pay off the full amount of our mortgage very soon, we will be out on the street, probably in the next month or so.

As a result of this, I will most likely be homeless and obviously unable to continue the strip.

I’ve tried everything I could over the past several months to bring in money, but the strip pays literally next to nothing, I’ve been unable to sell any of my writing, and the few collectibles I have left just aren’t fetching the money they would have a year ago.

I’m literally out of time and out of hope. I have no feet left to land on.

I’m sorry to lay all this on everyone, but I wanted you all to know exactly what was going on in case the strip disappears. If/when it happens, it wasn’t uClick’s decision (they’ve been very supportive of the strip and I love them for it), nor was it one that I will have wanted to make.

    Thanks for everything, folks.

in these hard economic times, this is happening all too often. Your ready and sometimes delightfully twisted wit will be sorely missed. And we eagerly await the time when her Maj once more rears her royal head (or takes Anne’s one of the two). I myself know said fear and pinch and the near impossibility of making any money with the written word. I’ve got three novels published (e-books) and am making next to nothing for 5 years. Yet cannot seem to get witha traditional publishing house.

Life has a rhythm, find it, and learn to move with it and eventually you can coax it to move to your tune. and remember that nothing, not even poverty, is permanent unless you give in to it. You may be poor of pocket, but keep your sense of humor and you will never be poor of spirit. We are here for you.

I’m sorry to hear that, Pabsungenis. My parents had a house fire too, and one of my grandmothers- by then an invalid- was living with them. They got out unharmed, but rebuilding was a chore.

Best of luck to you and your mother, and may her majesty return soon.

Oh, Pab, I’m so sorry to hear this! I pray that the universe will relent and let you keep your house.

Can you or a friend set up an Emergency Fund for Pab and accept donations from your friends and fans? I would happily send what I could. Do it through Paypal, so you’d have immediate access?

You are a gallant and generous man, and you deserve some help in keeping a roof over your head and your mom’s.

I’m very sorry to hear about your situation, Pab; all good thoughts and prayers to you. If Her Maj takes a hiatus we’ll miss her, but we’ll look forward to her return knowing she’ll be back. The universe can’t keep the good ones down.

My best thoughts and wishes to you–perhaps there is a PAB angel in waiting that just voicing the problem will bring to you. I surely wish that it be so.

Thanks for the link mivins. Pab, if all your fans sent you $1.00 for all the smiles, chuckles and gawfaws you have provided us over the last couple of years, your troubles would be greatly diminished. Aside from prayers and positive vibes, we will do what we can, for you to stay with us.

Mivins, you mean a mitzvah. A mikvah wouldn’t be that helpful in this case.

Whoops! Thanks, MorganZ. Though maybe Pabs would also like a soothing ritual bath right about now.

It’s a mitzvah, folks. Knock yourselves out. :>

I am sorry to hear about the situation. I feel your pain. I have worked 7 months in the last 5 years, temporary positions. I, unfortunately, cannot donate right now. You will be in my prayers.

I’m in rough straits myself, but you so have my sympathies, Pab. I’ve barely kept the roof over my head since my husband lost his job seven years ago and the edge of the precipice is awfully close from here.
