Hyenas and jackals got bad raps, called scavengers rather than predators. As they were often seen feasting at kills only after the lions left, that was a natural supposition. However, when someone finally went out to study them specifically they found that frequently, after making a kill, lions would bully them away from the kill – it was the lions who were scavenging.

Did anyone else besides us have trouble with their hyena always seeming to laugh at the most inappropriate times/scenes in the movies?
