Even before they ran off the French, those folks have been subject to violence and unstable governance. We, the USA, probably can’t help them solve their problems, by maybe help with some humanitarian assistance.
The Dominican Republic shares that same island. They do not suffer from these problems, at least not at this level. Why? By studying the history of the two, I think we could learn a few things.
Went on a cruise once 40 years ago. The ship stopped at port au prince. I saw it from the deck of the ship and said “This is close enough”. It’s only gotten worse since.
