Hmmm, the Trumpster or Biden…… Well Biden is the less of the 2 evils but if Monty Hall was here I would ask if I could see what was behind door #3, hopefully Green or DSA (all the way!).

Our current form of government is plutocracy. Actual democracy gives us the best chance to address all those ills.

Fortunately we’re not a Democracy or it would be pure majority rule. And socialism has never worked anywhere.

There’s a whole lot of options out there between those two. We’ve done pretty good with the balance over the past 200+ years. But many want to tear it all down.

Hey, 74,000,000, 2 things, 1. You know how you like to label everything you don’t like or understand a “socialist/communist?” Well, here’s the only one I can actually identify, though, this one DOES sell himself at every opportunity he can. 2. Your desire for the authoritarianism of trumpster fire, places you right in line with the general desires of Rall.

One unelected official in Maine, a Democrat, made the decision for the entire state that Trump’s name will be removed from the states 2024 primary ballot. There’s some democracy for you!

I worry that we are behaving more like an uncivilized contentious confederacy where individual state’s rights have priority over the federal government which should benefit ALL the states at far less cost due to the economies of scale.

Medicare for All is socialist. Public schools, roads, mail service, etc are socialist. Anything the government does to serve the people is socialist. Socialism is a scary word for Republicans. It is necessary for Republicans to use scary words to convince their base that they should remain loyal, because if they actually understood that they are voting against their own best interests they wouldn’t be Republicans. They have been taught that socialism is scary. 1%er owned news outlets have been telling them so for about 40 years now. So, if they are told someone is socialist, they don’t educate themselves to find out exactly what they are supposed to be afraid of. It’s a pretty shaky system and it’s amazing that people have fallen for it long enough for the country be in the condition it is, but they have.

Democracy isn’t meant to make health care affordable, to house the homeless, to end gun violence, to stop evil cops, end climate change, end street crime, lower tuition rates, make prisons pretty or stop any wars. Democracy is meant to provide WE, the People the decision of how we want to be governed.

Have to admit this made me laugh, but only a fool thinks a Trump administration would fix any of those problems. The real issue is an ineffective legislature that would rather posture than govern.

Umm.. maybe look at the life of the people that live in/under a dictator led country. Heck, there are even a few states that have drifted pretty close to dictator status, sometimes.. it’s hard to see the trees for the forest.

Poor Ted, heaven forbid he’d ever move to a country with NHS, pharmacare, dentalcare, no wars, strict gun control, (No Second Amendment), a parliamentary political system. My telephone, electrical natural gas and auto insurance are all Crown Corporations.

Give up democracy, and things will go downhill fast. I know it feels like we are already at the bottom of the hill, so “how can you go downhill from here”… but things can always get worse.

The only possible way for things to get better is if we keep democracy… and somehow get a democracy that works. Because with the current one, the way you vote has virtually no impact on how society is run.

You make a good point, Ted, when you say that our political system fails to address major problems. But it’s hard to fault democracy for that when our political system, including the media system that supports it, is so badly corrupted. But the answer is definitely not to turn things over to the most corrupt guy out there. The answer is to make the system more democratic. That means more people need to vote. And yes, to vote against Trump.

So let’s try this: "Vote against Trump! He’ll take away everything you care about! Forests will burn! Cities will drown! People will die because they can’t get healthcare! Schools will “teach” kids obedience and nothing else! Your food and water will be poisoned! Cops will rule the streets and kill anyone they don’t like! And if you protest you’ll be thrown in jail!"

Ted (“old lefty”) is a loyal communist – the ideology that has failed everywhere it was tried, but not without butchering and starving millions. As Churchill observed: “democracy is the worst form of government – except for all the others.”

Democracy has its drawbacks, but a theocratic dictatorship with a leader who has the temperament (and vocabulary) of an 8-year-old bully who always demands to get his way (and always manages to do so) is a far less desirable form of government.

If Mr. Biden loses an election, he will provide a peaceful transition of power. If Mr. Trump wins, he will never ever leave.

When a person shows you who he is, believe him the first time.

You’ll miss getting to vote ever again, Ted. Current democracy is far from perfect, but Trump “democracy” will be worse and will steadily get even worse. Think about the things you say in some of your cartoons.

Oh please, Biden has made some progress on healthcare and climate change, just not as much as you’d want. (Nor that I would, for that matter.) If Trump gets in you’ll consider this the good times.

Ya’ lost me there Teddy. Where on earth are those problems better under any other system of government? Sans democracy, the world can be a pretty ugly place. Joe Biden is far from the worst president ever and has been fairly effective at pushing forward a left of center agenda. The far left (and the far right) labor under the myth that the president wields more power than they actually can or should. Real lasting change starts with local politics and changing out the butts that sit in Congress. Maybe make a ’toon or two about that.

Because there can be universal health care in both democracies and dictatorships, that is not the determining factor. Something else is in play.

It isn’t that the majority in the U.S. want universal heath care, it is that a small and much more powerful minority does not.

I’m certain that if those elected ignored that minority, and moved for universal healthcare, it would be absolutely the best universal health care in the world.

Nevertheless, I refer readers to George Carlin’s monologue on why he does not vote, for deeper understanding.
