Awww, every parent tells their kids there is a Santa Claus, there is an Easter Bunny and there is a tooth fairy. Let the kid realize none of it was so as they get older, but I don’t think any kid gets angry with the parent for lying about that stuff. It’s part of the fun of childhood.
Just say, “Put it under your pillow and there may be some money to replace it in the morning.” And when asked how it was done, say, “When I was young, I was told it was the Tooth Fairy.”
