Jimmy Carter funded the Taliban, that‘s correct. I don’t remember whether this was a secret or not.

But how did this lead to 9/11? It is not even clear what role Bin Laden really played in this operation.

Carter’s actions re. Afghanistan are equivalent to the others’ lies? The fact that ObL gained his fame funding jihadis well after the Carter administration makes this causal relationship tenuous at best. While it’s true that Carter sent aid (summer, 1979) to fight what was believed to be an Soviet influence there, the actual Soviet invasion in late December, 1979 had a more direct connection to ObL’s appearance there. His motivation was to fight the godless communists, and only after the Soviets were defeated was Al-Qaeda formed.

I thought Carters funding of the Afghan revolutionaries was done via budget passed by Congress.

A unique act by presidential libraries for presidents of both parties recognizing the assaults on democratic principles by the Republican party in numerous states and Congress.

The Afghans had nothing to do with 9/11! None of those terrorists were Afghan, none. Saudi Arabia was the country behind 9/11. The funding was Saudi, the terrorists were Saudi, the planning was Saudi! What did Jimmy Carter helping the Afghans against the Russians have to do with 9/11?

Let’s talk about “You can keep your doctor”. Nothing in the bill prevented you from keeping your doctor. This is AMERICA, you can hire any doctor you like. The problem was your insurance company, NOT the government. It was the insurance company who told you that they would not pay for you to see your old doctor. You could see him, yes. But the INSURANCE company wouldn’t cover you.

How was this Obama’s fault? Obama wanted single payer health insurance from the beginning. It was CONGRESS who negotiated and sold us out to the insurance companies.

Ted, if you want to slam Obama on health care, slam him for failing to get single payer. That doctor thing was a Republican talking point, it wasn’t the truth. Heck, slam him for going to Flint and pretending to drink the lead filled water from the tap. Slam him for failing to close Gitmo.

But the “you can keep your doctor” thing is lame.

And yet all those compare to today’s… American credibility at all time low, Biden is the first US president with lower tha 60% favorability since wwii no president has been under 80% and thats cause they dont openly criticized him because they want the help to ukraine to keep coming but they also blame him and Obama for it.

Liar Trump embraced covid and wiped out the red wave.

I applaud Ted Rall for pointing out that both parties are at fault. Both parties need to work together to drain the swamp.

I just like the way Ted Rall’s mind works — always sensitive to hypocrisy, critical of posturing, non-partisan highlighting of foibles and fickleness. He gets a like on this from me.

I DID get to keep my doctor, as did everyone else I know.

Jimmy Carter was President (one term) in the early 70s as I recall. 9/11 was was “caused” in 2011 when USA failed to respond to intelligence available at the time. BTW, You don’t mention Reagan, who led the charge to bankrupt the American working class. Jimmy Carter led the charge to take environment destruction seriously. To many of us he is the best President in living memory, perhaps the most relevant President ever.

1) It was Ronald Reagan that funded the Afghan Jihadis, 2) You could keep you own doctor in the ACA (unless your insurance company screwed it up for you), and 3) Bill Clinton actually did not lie.

You forgot Mr. Iran-Contra, who also had a much greater role in creating the Taliban.
