Color me skeptical. After the tsunami of money going to Big Pharma during COVID, we’re supposed to think that the politicians feeding the Big Pharma beast all this time are going to put it on a diet?

Part of the Inflation Reduction Act that oh so many on the right claim increases prices. I think “Cerabooge” is correct that we have to see how it actually plays out, but it’s the furthest we’ve gone down the path to lower prescription prices. So far.

@Cerabooge – it’s already happening. Negotiations have started!

Ten drugs have been selected thus far.

“More than half the drugs selected for an initial round of price negotiations are medications to prevent blood clots and treat diabetes, and were taken by millions of people on Medicare in the past year, according to a list released by federal health officials who oversee Medicare, the vast public health insurance system. Others are used to treat heart trouble, autoimmune diseases and cancer.”

It’s not going to be immediate – it takes effect in 2026, which is yet another reason to vote blue and keep out the Republicans who made this necessary.

In case people don’t recall, not only did they exclude negotiation on drug prices in the first place – something done by every other industrialized nation in the world – but recently tried to roll back the reforms to prevent the government from having authority over drug prices. https://thehill,com/homenews/senate/3678314-senate-republican-bill-would-repeal-dem-drug-pricing-law/

It’s worth noting that because of the Republicans, not only are the pharmaceutical companies making massive profits off the US, we are paying for lower prices everywhere else in the world.

Republicans did everything they could to stop this from happening and they are not finished yet.

Ambassador Haley and others in the G.O.P. are referring to this negotiation of drug prices as “communism”, “socialism” and worse…

We’ll see if the republican electorate buys into this latest stupidity from their leaders – past experience tells me that there is no bottom to the depths of their ignorance and gullibility…

Well, rest assured GULLibles, Evangelicals and MAGAts that as soon as the Fat Orange Clown and his fellow insurrectionists return in 2025 they will rectify this by getting big government off your backs, deregulating the bureaucracy and letting the free market work.

Of course there will be collateral damage as it takes time to correct what those demon Dems have done. Sacrifices have to be made so know that the slow deaths of your elderly relatives and their friends will be for the cause. Maybe dementia will get them so they won’t know what will happen after they vote Red.

“we are paying for lower prices everywhere else in the world.” … Trump tried to claim the US subsidizes other countries’ lower drug costs. But a lot of development of new drugs happens in said countries. The problem is that currently Big Pharma makes a much bigger PROFIT than most other companies, indicating that they could spend a little more on that instead of gouging us for huge drug bills.

It is said that the VA can, and does, negotiate drug prices. Is that so?
