When I was 9, for Halloween I dressed as a boy from my school readers. It was the mid-50s so I wore a horizontal striped tee shirt and shorts so I looked like the airbrush illustrations in the books. Nobody got it.
I once dressed in a costume that consisted of wrapping myself in aluminum foil, with bits of green cotton wool poking out. I was leftovers. You know, that scary thing wrapped in foil that you forgot about in the back of the fridge.
I was one of a short list that thought it was funny.
I’m trying to visualize what sort of costume would immediately be recognized “clever! she’s obviously a Russian political dissident!” (At present, there probably aren’t very many left in Russia)
