Back when I played Santa Teresa Golf Course in San Jose, it was a well know warning to not go after any ball hit into the high dry grass off to the sides of the fairways.
I’ve caught two (rattlesnakes) around the house this year. A 3-foot female and a 4-foot male. The male was very aggressive, which made him easy to find. You just had to enter the general area and he set up a loud rattle like a high pressure air leak. Bagged them both and took them out to a rural field with no nearby houses and let them out to do their assigned rodent control. Rattlesnakes don’t have it all their own way. We also have king snakes that will swallow a rattlesnake longer than they are.
Learn to identify snakes and avoid the poisonous ones, snakes are very beneficial to us. Except the invasive ones that idiots brought to the US and then released into the wild. Florida is run over by pythons.

Careful. One might bite you in the grass.

Where do you live? We had rattlers in North Dakota when I was growing up

Beware the Florida Burmese python. Venom is not the issue.
