Cute cartoon. Until you start to lay the blame at the feet of every politician that created this, it’s just “ink on paper”. The GOP started this with fighting unfunded trillion dollar wars and doubling down by giving trillions in tax breaks to the top 1%. THAT’S what the US tax payers are footing the bill for. THAT’S the fault of the GOP.
2017-2019 Republicans controlled both houses of Congress and the White House. They passed a massive tax cut that enormously benefitted corporations and the richest Americans (The US boasts the largest concentration of wealth among the fewest of any major economy in the world). Revenue fell, it government spending did not. The debt limit was raised without a peep.
The economy is putting along quite well and recession is only in the eye of those wishing for it like Mr. Ramirez who wants to pin it on Biden. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/us-economy-beats-back-dubious-recession-fears-after-gdp-jobs-data-top-expectations-202247838.html?.tsrc=372
This is the first Ramirez cartoon I actually agree with. Love the bored eyes on the middle fish and the bug eyes on the taxpayer. Now put the shark neatly sliced on a billionaires dinner plate.
The Billionaire Protection Caucus in Congress fighting so hard for the filthy rich is making this happen. The cuts they call for are are actually gains for the wealthy.
Every time they do this…and at the 11th hour they settle…drama drama drama….I read hardliners are calling for McCarthy to resign….these people are so unreasonable and I wouldn’t put it past them not to settle this time…putting millions at risk…..
I think everyone should go out and max out their credit cards to the limit. It’s just debt. Then get another few credit cards and max them out. Again, it’s just debt. No problem. Keep doing this until no bank will issue you a credit card. Good luck paying off your existing maxed out credit cards. I know this sounds ridiculous, but that is exactly what the government is doing. We’re spending money we don’t have and there is no end in sight, until the bottom falls out. That’s coming real soon. It will not be a pretty sight.
conservatives hoping for a recession again after failing to make a recession last year. Every Republican/conservative president since 1929 has had a depression or recession, some had two. Republican/conservatives have proved beyond a reasonable doubt that they cannot manage an economy nor govern.
How many days did it take biden to finally come to the table after saying he would not negotiate? 90 or so? The fact that this isn’t already done is on him, but it will get done without the US defaulting. June 1st is not a real deadline for not paying the bills. There are billions and billions of dollars in discretionary expenses that can be temporarily deferred (or even cut, but don’t expect that from the administration) without effecting any obligations such as social security, medicare/medicaid, VA bennies, etc.
Requiring that spending be ratcheted down a tiny amount in exchange for a bump in the debt ceiling isn’t an unreasonable deal. The negotiations should be only about where the reductions will happen. But Biden wants to increase spending while republicans want spending levels the same as 2022. The horror! The majority of Americans want the federal government to spend less overall. Where people differ is where the reductions should come from and they often want more spending in certain areas. Fed revenues are more than adequate to do everything the fed should do. They don’t have a revenue problem, they have a spending problem. There are plenty of cuts that could be made that would make little to no difference, but every dollar is contested by someone and usually accompanied with hyperbolic rhetoric and flat-out lies – They’re trying to kill grandma! Oy!
The inflation problem is 100% on Biden. The massive spending created the highest inflation in 40 years. I can prove that it wasn’t “tax breaks for the rich”.Here it is. Read it and weep libs…https://www.thebalancemoney.com/u-s-inflation-rate-history-by-year-and-forecast-3306093

Recession will happen late this year or next year. It’s not dependent on default.

And what comes after the Recession?

The hypocrisy we now see is staggering.

The U.S. does not lack the capacity to service its debt if allowed to do so. Another disengenuous argument by the Repubs.

Another accurate but rare cartoon from Ramirez! I guess the blind squirrel can find a nut once in a while. Good job!

It certainly didn’t take Dementia Joe long to crash a booming economy.
