Pay it out of your own pockets; if tax dollars are used then demand the private schools follow federal guidelines on classes and are open to all students in the district and none can be rejected! Separate is not equal!
Public school money should go to public schools only. No vouchers for sending kids to private and religious schools, and certainly not federal tax money for private schools. You want private, pay for it out of your own pocket. However, your social responsibility requires everyone to pay into public education.
It is always amazing just how many christian conservative parents fought so hard to keep their children from getting a real education from real, qualified teachers to become the Republicans we see today.
Private schools have not proven themselves as some seem to believe. When religion or profit is the cornerstone of an institutional the focus is often not on the betterment of a pupils education.
Mr. Allie. I taught during the Covid years. I am over 60, have asthma and spent a good part of that time recovering from cancer surgery. I was worried that I could catch Covid and die. No one knew how bad Covid would get. The one example we had was the 1918 Flu, which killed millions. Closing schools seemed appropriate.
We worked our butts off finding ways to make education work under those conditions. In return we have been reviled as cowards. We’ve been called “groomers” for teaching the actual facts of life. We’ve been accused of teaching kids to hate America for teaching our actual history. We’ve being accused of indoctrinating students by teaching actual science.
People like you expect me to take a bullet for your kids, as if my own kids don’t matter. You would arm me to defend my classroom from a problem you guys have created. You expect me to work for lower wages and under conditions that most of you all would not.
I’m glad that someone like Randi Weingarten is working for me. She does not represent students, she represents me (hint – it’s in the name TEACHER’s union).
My final year teaching was 2020. (This was planned years in advance.) I can’t speak for other schools, districts but for me my final two months were filled with constant uploading of lessons, attempting to contact those who had not “checked in” electronically, and weekly reports to administrators proving that I was doing what I was required to do. Our ancient building might have been a petri dish for the disease’s spread. The retroactive criticism is way too dismissive of facts that upset their narrative. I certainly would have preferred to end the year/career in a more traditional matter, but life does happen, doesn’t it?
The problem I had was on the student end. Many did not have access to the internet. Many did the minimum to complete the semester. For the seniors, it was an awful way to finish their scholastic careers. I imagine it was the same for students just starting.
As to the fall of 2020, I’m pretty sure the poor circulation issue and our students’/their family’s fear didn’t disappear by that point. Could they have reopened that fall? Sure. SHOULD they have reopened? It’s a bit more nuanced than the arm chair quarterbacks indicate.
And while I was retired, I can attest from my contacts that the school year was met with the same verve and professionalism that I encountered throughout my 30+ year career from the vast majority of my colleagues.
Anti worker, anti teacher, anti truth, anti freedom. Keep the revelations coming. Teach a child to be a learning freethinker and you have them for a lifetime
Speaking of “true history”, let’s review just a couple of paragraphs from the history textbook used in Virginia public schools into the 1970s:
“A feeling of strong affection existed between masters and slaves in a majority of Virginia homes. ….It was to [the master’s] own interest to keep his slaves contented and in good health. If he treated them well, he could win their loyalty and cooperation. …The intelligent master found it profitable to discover and develop the talents and abilities of each slave. …The more progressive planters tried to promote loyalty and love of work by gifts and awards.”
“Many Knee Grows ( you’re welcome, mods) were taught to read and write. Many of them were allowed to meet in groups for preaching, for funerals, and for singing and dancing. They went visiting at night and sometimes owned guns. …Most of them were treated with kindness.”
There’s more, but you get the picture.
Somehow I managed to learn the truth, and I also learned to despise those who would revise history for malign purposes.
Current politicians demanding that schools evade and remain mute regarding the truth are doing the country no favors.
I was a member of the AFT for 9 years and then the NEA for 12 years. We threatened to go on strike 5 times total. We did not care a whit about the children, only our incomes and our contract demands. It is no different today. The teachers’ union only care about themselves, their personal health, their incomes, job security, and imposition of administrative rules, not the risk of COVID on children. Pay us whether we worK online or not. We know this threat was a hoax ala Fauci, the CDC, and that seriously incapacitated guy in the White House. Hint: it was not Trump who the DEM wish to blame for everything. Maybe they also blame him for World War 2? Meanwhile highschool graduate for years to come will underperform in basic skills and rank even lower compared to other nations. Shame on you, shame on us, and shame on China for their recklessness, and infecting the word with this pandemic that cost so many lives unnecessarily.
Inadvertently you make the point: Conservatives do not want American children to learn history. They fear it because it motivates people to work for rational and practical change based on analysis and reason. Conservatives prefer a curriculum of faith and prayers that will train a submissive populace.

I believe that the unions were more interested in keeping teachers and children alive.

As I remember it, Fox TV personnel all worked from home. The studios were closed. It’s OKAY If A Republican Does It.
.
Of course the pandemic is just another ‘issue’ for Trump Disciples to weaponize and LIE about.
.
And Republicans reverence of History is indeed precious.

Get your kids into private schools where education is the first priority. Public schools have proven to be a failure thanks in part to the unions.

When management has all the power, the workers suffer, likewise, when unions have all the power, that leads to abuse.
Strong unions and strong management. Making sure neither side has all the power keeps those of us in the middle safe.

Columbus was a great liberator
There were no Japanese internment camps in America
And the classic the slaves were Guest workers

No they were more interested in getting paid not to work, children were not at risk, if retail workers could keep working teachers could have also.
