Grover was president when Liberty arrived here. We owe the French much for our Liberty, both for their military help in 1781 and for the statue 105 years later. We did much to pay back the former in the World Wars. Maybe Euro-Disney for the latter? ;^)
Liberty requires respect for self and others and restraint of self. One can be free to choose any action, that does not make it legal or moral. It would be immoral to randomly kill someone who is walking down the street. It would be moral to kill them to save your own life if they were attacking you. Likewise, it is immoral to abuse your own life with heroin or other drugs even though you have the freedom to do so. You have to make sure you can live up to your potential and respect your own dignity so you avoid your own self-imposed death and destruction.
Free Will is the gift from God that we each have. But that does not mean we should abuse that freedom to be destructive to ourselves or others.
Must have been one of the few who actually went to CPAC… although the Statue of Liberty is big enough to occupy several of the empty seats… but I doubt they’d let her in the door if they read her inscription…

Free or Not: “It would be moral to kill them to save your own life if they were attacking you”
You might want to read Matthew 5:38-48 before making such a statement.
