I seem to remember a recent Russian buildup and acting out episode, still ongoing. It seems they have exposed the pesky detail that their military is a sick shell of what it was supposed to be due to Communist Paradise levels of corruption. China suffers the same problem and is in the process of going broke.

I’m sure China’s build-up of pre-WWII level naval assets gives them the advantage in numbers. But, there is a benefit to “quality” over “quantity”. The US will never match their numbers, nor should they.

Old news. They’ve been creating islands to try to claim more ocean territory for many years too.

China: 1 Aircraft Carrier – US of A: 11…. Overexaggerating a bit Michael? (I don’t suggest that Chinas build up should be ignored but that there is ANY risk of US being outgunned in the near 20 years is ridiculous)

Great artwork, as usual… but the wave is actually “The great wave off Kanagawa” from the world-famous ukiyoe (woodblock print) Japanese artist Hokusai. Using a Japanese picture to illustrate the Chinese threat… Sort of defeats the purpose.

No offense Michael, but how long were you in the Navy? What do you know of our naval capabilities? What are the primary missions of the US Navy? Are you qualified to judge, to make comparisons?

Or do you just regurgitate what you’ve heard in your echo chamber?

There’s ways some reason for the US to maintain the biggest military budget in the world, spending more on war/defense than the next nine countries combined.

Way more shipyards. Ability to produce ships much more quickly. Mr. Ramirez points out growing issues which the U.S. military recognizes and knows must be addressed.

The US has 11 aircraft carriers, China just launched their third.

Can a naval fleet take and hold land, or does it take more than boats on the water to dominate a war? Has anyone asked Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan how that went?

China already has a larger Navy then the USA does, but it’s only because they have a very high number of small coastal patrol boats. As far as capability goes, the Chinese are still light-years behind.

Their subs are noisy. Their officer corps is untested in battle. And one suspects that they suffer the same corruption that plagues the Russian military. On paper they are very formidable, but can they deliver when the shooting starts?

OMG, China is building and has now reached 10% of America. We’re all gonna die. Be afraid, be very afraid. (Vote Republican.)

A strong, capable and well-trained and supplied military is expensive. But it’s a LOT cheaper than losing.

We’re doing a lot of dumb things in our military right now, the social justice warrior assault probably the most troublesome in the short term, but I’m thinking they may be thwarted before the damage is strategically fatal.

And just this week the Biden Administration’s State Department is hosting a security conference with the Taiwanese.

    Stay tuned.

While China has more ships, they’ve a long way to catch up to the U.S. number of combat warships.

I was astounded and shocked that Ramirez used this very famous work of Japanese art to represent a threat from China.

Just saw a show about the USS Gravely. Watching the Phalanx CISW weapon fire was crazy. They shot a small moving drone out of the air from 2 1/2 miles away.

Pure anti-American ignorance. The USA and allies defeated Japan on VJ day in 1945.

No. Not even close. They now have more ships, but we have a much stronger and capable navy.

Sort of reminds me of Maj. Burns in “M.A.S.H.” on not trusting the Chinese: “Didn’t we learn anything from Pearl Harbor?”

Mr. Ramirez often creates beautifully crafted cartoons, even when engaging in cultural appropriation. Or idiotic policies.

It’s not the size of the fleet, it’s the motion of the ocean.
