Pretty much equivalent to Trump’s planning for and response to the pandemic.

And neither one gives a sh!t.

Seems to be a pretty common theme with right wingers. Never plan for a natural disaster, while creating other disasters in your country.

Don’t like Erdogan. Not a bit. But, no country in the world would be ready for that.

The arrogance of authoritarians allows little room for error—a simple dictum that eludes our own home-grown right wing dimmies.

So does Bashar al-Assad, even before the earthquake.

Kinda reminds me of Hurricane Katrina which came along after Cheney/Rumsfeldt (Bush) had gutted FEMA to divert more money to their mercenary outfits in Iraq.

The government had put in much tougher building codes after the previous devastating earthquake – I believe it was 2011. And immediately began granting exemptions (aka, payoffs) to the estimated tune of over 500,000 since then.

    What did they expect???

Like a lot of other authoritarian “leaders”, he has exercised control, but not a lot of responsibility for the welfare of his people.

And here we have all been told that a dictatorship had the advantage of no red tape, and they could handle events quickly with no resistance.

Please to note that like ALL Oligarchs (Trump included), Erdoğan’s “plans” centered mainly around himself, and he wasn’t “touched” by the earthquake – so no problems.

That’s why Erdogan declared martial law immediately after the earthquake.

No telling how much. Officially, Turkey spends around 2% of its GDP on the military. Yet they just produced an Aircraft Carrier, even with the F35 being denied to Turkey they are making it work with strike drones. Not sure how effective it will be, not sure if they are lying on their expenditure but something just seems off.
