Another case of adults in the room. While repug chicken littles and Faux running around with their hair on fire, what we actually have is:

The Pentagon was aware of this all along.

They are able to track the signals emitted by this craft and determined it was very unlikely to be a an immediate threat to anybody

They were able to jam its communication so it was no use to the Chinese.

They wanted to recover the craft as intact as possible so they could say for certain what China was up to.

There was no reason to shoot it down over land. It was more useful to let it go and see if anything else could be learned by its behavior. They could have shot it down easily at any point.

They removed it when it cleared the Atlantic coast, and will hopefully recover it with helicopters and divers before it sinks into the ocean.

This is how adults do it — including plenty of adults working in the Pentagon who repugs identify as “deep state”.

Meanwhile McCarthy and fellow insurrectionists are yammering about the theory this was launched from Wuhan, idiots.

When The Messiah was president, there were three Chinese balloons. NONE of them were shot down.

Because It’s OKAY If A Republican Does It.

    Or Doesn’t Do It.

The dude on the right literally is correct. It’s another distraction. A photo op for right wingers to point their guns at the sky. If you TRULY believe that this balloon was a threat, try reading up a bit on the history of spying.

Apparently Trump had the same response when 3 came over during his reign of ineffectiveness.

Let’s say there were three CCP balloons flown across the U.S. during his presidency. Why would a media who lived breathed and existed solely to report on the failures real and imagined of President Trump report nothing of these three incidents? It strains credulity so much that this exchange took place in the WH briefing room Monday: Gen. Glen VanHerck, head of NORAD, takes questions on Chinese spy balloon. Was asked about previous balloons administration says crossed US in Trump years. Has very little to say. Then asked: If you didn’t know about them then, how do you know now?

Okay something smells hare. Biden’s initial reaction when informed of the balloon a week ago, last Wednesday, was to shoot it down. It just so happens I agree with him and am puzzled why the Pentagon talked him out of it. I understand the reasoning that they wanted to wait until the balloon got over the ocean for safety reasons and more intact recovery reasons. Uh, sorry for this but neither reason holds any water.

First off is the safety thing. I have a pretty good understanding of the capabilities of our military. Given the path of the balloon over wide open spaces much of which has a zero population density, plus the fact that our military has the people and equipment to secure any proposed area where the debris would land, the idea that a shoot down over land was unsafe is ridiculous.

Second, that they wanted a soft landing in water to avoid damage. That’s huge pile of BS. Hitting the water at terminal velocity is not significantly different from hitting the ground. In both cases, unless specifically hardened, things are going to break or at least developed cracks. On land this is not much of an issue, in water that’s a major problem.

Nothing about this makes very much sense especially the timeline in which Biden was informed of this intrusion. We know that the military knew of the balloon when it entered our airspace over the Aleutians, they said so. Further, knowing what I do of our Intel capabilities, I’ll posit that they knew of that balloon shorty after it was launched and certainly far before it got to our airspace. So, an extremely important question is, why was the POTUS not informed for DAYS after our Intel agencies and Military knew of it.

    Something is very wrong here.

According to “official sources”, in addition to this latest intrusion there three others during Presidents Trump’s term in office. Problem is, neither Trump or anyone else in his administration has any recollection of such events. Plus, NORAD says they only just now discovered those previous intrusions. If that’s the case then President Trump and his administration were never informed because they were recently discovered. Reallly? How does that work? Here’s another possibility that makes a bit more sense. They tracked and recorded these intrusions but never passed the information up the chain of command to President Trump. If this is the case, then we have two different Commanders in Chief, one of which was not informed of the intrusion into our airspace by a hostile nation until days after the fact and another who was never informed at all.

Does anyone other than myself find this to be highly questionable? Judging by the reactions of those on both the left and the right, this is an intolerable set of events. There needs to be an investigation as to why, someone in the chain of command, saw fit to delay the timely information of a hostile intrusion into our airspace to Biden and not inform at all, three other such occasions to President Trump.

This balloon was discovered by people on the ground who could see it w the naked eye. Now we’re supposed to believe NOBODY saw three balloons during the Trump presidency proving there is NO GRENADE the left will not jump on in defense of the improbable. New cartoon on the way. Thanks for being here. -ML
