We used to have an acquaintance who insisted more guns meant less violence. He got so angry when I pointed out the difference between Australia and the US he was actually spitting. At that particular conversation, we had a young friend from France, who told us he frightened her. We made our excuses, left, and have never spoken to him again.
wow, this is just what I wrote to my brother who lives in another country. I wrote “living here is like living Russican Roulette.” Synchrony I guess. Why in the world anyone wouldn’t be ok with limiting automatic weapons is beyond me. They have no purpose but to kill people. But it will take societal consciousness to make this change as guns are simply in the USA DNA, but it has no logic.
6 bullets? If someone plays Russian roulette, they fire a gun with only 1 bullet at their head without knowing whether it will shoot them. If you fire a gun with 6 bullets at your head you know what happens.
If there can be limitations on the First Amendment (example, not yelling ‘FIRE’ in a crowded theater,) there can be limitations on the Second Amendment (example: no fully automatic weapons for civilians). If you ask an extreme gunophile why he needs a military-style weapon, he might say ‘for protection’. Against a home intruder? Maybe, and also from GOV’MINT tyranny, the latter of which I consider slip-sliding away into paranoia.
My wife has a quick temper and does not suffer diving fools lightly. She has been very quick to swear and gesture. Until I told her after this month’s spate of mass shootings, “From now on, Honey, I going to assume every driver is armed”. This seems to have reigned in her impulsiveness.
When criminals get a free rain to do as they please, expect this sort of thing. In a country that has been divided and feel hopeless, people are angry, scared, and are quick to overreact. Soft on crime rules do not work and people will do what is necessary to protect themselves, regardless the weapon or means to do so. As will criminals will do their “thing” regardless the weapon or means to do so.
Yeah, except that the weapons of choice these days seem to be long-magazine semi-automatic pistols and rifles (with optional bump stocks, naturally). Same effect as a six-bullet revolver, of course—there’s always a bullet the next time you pull the trigger.
