Either this strip is missing something, or I am.

I’m sure there’s a point to this. Something that would have made sense in 1965?

Came back as Lewinsky?

??? Maybe the next strip will answer the questions from this one. I just looked up some news reports from that month but found nothing that might relate to cigars or boxes. Be interesting to see what commenters add to this strip.

The only thing I have quickly is that cigar boxes were common as small keepers of keepsakes.

Whatever Mr. Hart had in mind when he drew this didn’t come across in the finished version. It makes no sense at all as evidenced by all the comments.

I remember when I was younger you used cigar boxes for everything, even though they might have smelled like cigar. Today’s cigar boxes aren’t quite the same.

I swear I remember a similar exchange ending with the reply that he wanted to come back as an anteatereater.

Glad to see I’m not the only one who doesn’t get this.

We took cigar boxes for our pencils and stuff in grade school. I loved the sweet smell.
