Teacher: Hi, Holly! Did you have a nice vacation?
Holly: I had to study MATH all summer.
Teacher: Good for you! That will make this year SO much easier!
Teacher: Let me guess, dear...you don't GIVE A RIP.
Holly: Good guess.
If she keeps scowling like that she’s gonna lose her friends. Ok so you’re in school and you’d rather not be. It happens to every kid on the planet. Grow up and live with it.
Holly had it light with the math. Grandma did her best. Hopefully the teachers and classmates will get through to her.
I hope also the schools in general will remember what today’s anniversary is, although kids in general might not be interested, but what a sad day.
She will be 13 for the next 20 years in this strip! As for today, I taught real 13 year olds 8 years ago. We stopped what we were doing, turned on the classroom TV and watched as the first tower came down. The kids knew the significance of what they were seeing.
Haven’t any of you had an actual teenage daughter? They become the most miserable beings on the planet due to hormones. They all go through the I am too ugly to live stage and depending on how quickly the hormones adjust, it can last for years! Mine woke up from her “fit” on her 15th birthday, said: “Good Morning, I am your daughter that has been hiding in misery for 3 years.” She hadn’t spoken a civil word to anyone (except her “friends”) since she hit puberty! This miserable period with Holly will last as long as it lasts, with no respite for the weary. Glad to see it being recognized as an actual time.
MatureCanadian: Yes, I raised a teenage daughter (and then a son). I think many of these readers just see Holly as a rotten kid, but I agree completely with you. Holly is a typical adolescent delusional hormone-driven girl - “only her friends understand her”. I can go “lol” now because it’s over for me.
No, she’ll have a promising career at an establishment named after a pat of the female anatomy as long as she can look presentable in orange shorts and a two sizes too small -shirt

With that attitude, I’m sure she can get a job at the DMV.

She’ll be on welfare by the time she’s 21.

Holly needs to be less Paris Hilton, and a little more Katara about life.

Hold her back a year and the embarrassment will make her do well.
