From a time few would ever remember. Used to be life insurance payment collectors came to the door once a month to collect payments as low as 50 cents. Same for other debit reps.

Ask him since we paid the electric bill if he happens to have any recipes for ice cubes.

When times were tough we put the electric bill check in the gas company envelope and the gas company check in the electric company envelope. Usually gave us time to the next payday.

My Dad used to send me into the Polish National Alliance “office” to pay his life insurance premium. I quoted the word office because it was a glorified bar. The place smelled of stale beer and cigarette smoke.

Insurance "collectors " never came to your door. In Canada, by law, they are required to notify you by registered mail that you missed a month’s payment. Don’t pay it and you have a 30 day grace period. Still not pay it and your policy is cancelled and you are notified by registered mail. They cannot just cancel it, and only an idiot would send someone to your door to collect a 50 cent bill. Sending someone costs way more than 50 cents. BTW, my daughter is a VP in an insurance company, and lets NOT start a diatribe on how insurance companies rip you off. I can refute every accusation you can spout. lol

Maybe it’s just me, but the view out the window is very confusing. What’s the green in the upper left of the window? What’s going on with the back of his shirt? Is someone pulling on it?

I remember gas, water and electric men came IN the house and read the meters‼️

I remember when the garbage men came in everyone’s yard and brought the cans to the curb‼️

Now everything is read electronically. And we haul @$$ to take out our own garbage‼️☺️☺️☺️☺️

When I was a boy, I had a paper route and I was required to collect .50 from each customer on Saturday mornings. One morning I walked up to a house and rang the doorbell and got no response. But from behind the drawn curtains I heard: “Quiet – he is still out there!”

When I was a kid I remember our Insurance man coming to the house for payment of life insurance. His name was Joe Dodge, the nicest guy and always helpful. He became a family friend and I can still remember him after all these years.

When I was in high school my dad would send me out to collect rents. I hated to have to listen to excuses.

Another good reason not to answer the door.
