Ostracizing people we disagree with does nothing to keep the lines of communication open. We see this all the time in American politics: “Why should I listen to a single thing you have to say? You’re never going to vote for me anyway.”
As a college professor of mine once remarked, “If you only listen to people you already agree with, you never learn anything.”
That was not a decree from Biden, but a judge who said he was enforcing a law that was already on the books. When was that law passed, and which President signed it?
