Putin’s purpose is the same as Scrooge’s — to reduce the surplus population, i,e,. anyone not enjoying ‘most favored status’ and anyone of a minority.

I do wonder, is the focus on those protesting might be obscuring a view of “patriotic” Russians buying into what he’s selling? They certainly have the history of answering the call to arms when Mother Russia is threatened-real or imagined. I hope I’m wrong, but how can we know?
