I get the Zager and Evans song reference “In the year 2525”. Great tune. I also get that Lameocrats need to do much more than just say they aren’t the “other guys” and essentially keep the status quo for the 1% owners of America. I correspond with friends in Europe and read how their cultures, and governments, promote better standards of living for all citizens. They have many issues involving housing, for example, and some novel approaches that don’t involve profit gouging to provide affordable homes and renters a demoncratic voice in how much rent is paid for shelter rendered. Is this perfect? No, but at least there is an effort and political will badly lacking in America. So much potential here, so little accomplished.
If the Repubs purge their party of Trump and his delusions, if Trump goes to jail for the crimes he has committed against the U.S. and democratic principles, the Dems will stop talking about him.
The worse it becomes for Republicans, the more they double-down the attacks on Democrats. It is both sad and funny Republicans cannot develop a cogent, demonstrable platform leading their Party into the future for our country like the Democrats have done. Even Ted Rall can’t break free from projective blame-shifting.
Meanwhile, back in 2022, Trump is still the twisted soul of the GOP. How can we miss him if he won’t go away?
And when Trump himself passes from this world, as all men must, Trumpism will linger. Perhaps it will be called “DeSantisism” or the like, but stinkweed by any other name…
Think not upon 2525. Sufficient unto 2022 is the Trump thereof.
Based on what I read on these blogs I have to agree with Ted, here. Way too much concentration on the symptom and not the 70 million Elvis fans, way too many likes for “trump is bad-level posts.”………………………… I’m sure that about here Ted and I would part ways, when he started smashing Biden for not fixing everything one week after he got in office.
It’s unfortunate that Mr. Rall does not take the entire situation into consideration. If it was only a bad person who is no longer president, perhaps he might have a point. But the fact that the entire Republican party has turned up the focus on racism, removing rights, promoting a love-fest with the Confederacy and with Mr. Putin, calling an attempted coup “legitimate political discourse”, banning membership to anyone who tells the truth, and trying to destroy trust in science and election integrity makes it much more necessary to vote against the party. Hard to believe a person as smart and as observant as Mr. Rall has such a blind spot.
Since we didn’t have sunshine and lollipops on January 21st, the media started picking at Biden’s administration. Mistakes were made, and they will highlight them instead of the good being done— because they get better ratings. And, frankly, because we need to know about those mistakes.
Trump’s plague didn’t magically disappear when Biden took office. It was out of control.. The way to make a plague disappear is to never let it get out of control in the first place. Trump cut the team that Obama set up to do that out of the 2018 budget.
We also have a financial mess crated by Trump’s failure to manage the pandemic, or even make a legitimate effort to do so. This is going to take years and a massive effort to correct. We were lucky to avoid another great depression, and the economy is going to be messed up for much longer.
The Republicans have created messes every time they have had the White House in my memory, which means that we can’t make any progress because the entire Democratic administration has to be dedicated to repairing the damage. Since we will still be digging out of the mess the Republicans left in 2024, there is a good chance that people will be stupid enough to put them back in the White House, so they can create more mess for the next Democrat to get stuck with.
Rall may not have noticed, but here and now, in 2022 and 2024, Trump is still an active presence and a continuing danger in the US political scene. I’m hardly in love with the Democratic party, but the Republican party (not all Republicans, but certainly the party leadership) has embraced an anti-democratic and authoritarian position. We need better than the Democratic party, okay, but we sure don’t need worse. And that’s the practical choice right now.

If man is still alive
If woman can survive
They may find —"
— Zager and Evans
But what they’ll probably find won’t be this. Though I’ll give Rall credit for artistic license… and the sun is shown as very hot.

If the Republicans win in 2022 and 2024, there might not be a 2525 for humans to worry about.

That’s what the US will look like if the Right takes control of Government. They already have the un-Supreme Court so there ain’t much Left. (Get it?)

Ted has two things right. USA is destroying itself. As long as GOP is the party of T****, it remains a valid reason to vote Democrat.
