Politics IS a dangerous game. And honestly, it seems like a tolerable idea to me. Give them enough funding to hang themselves. Note that they are NOT (so far as I know) actually supporting folks who have more than adequate funding from the likes of the orange error.
It WOULD be far preferable (to me) to have candidates from several parties who would do an adequate job regardless of party. Quite far from what we’re seeing these days when one candidate is annoying and the other is certifiable.
Well, it once worked in WA state. At the time, the primaries were nonpartisan so you could vote for whoever regardless of party membership. A lot of people voted for a real nutty conservative candidate. Then they turned around and voted liberal in the general election. The system was changed the next year.
It’s called politics and it’s always been a risky, dangerous game. Glad to see the Dems getting a bit nasty and playing hardball instead of being their usual feckless, spineless and predictable selves.
This “choose your opponent by crossing the line in the primaries” strategy never really works out and has incredible potential for blowing up in your face.
That can backfire- in 1966 Georgia Republicans voted for Lester Maddox in the Democratic primary, thinking he would be the easiest to beat in November. He ended up as Governor.
While not against the “rules” this only goes to show how we’ve wrecked the primary system. Primaries are party functions. They are the means by which Democrats select a Democrat to represent the Democratic Party in the general election. Same for Republicans, Socialists, Green Party etc.. If you choose not to be a Democrat, a Republican, et al, then you just have to wait your turn to vote in the general election. Neither party should be meddling in the opposing party’s selection process.
The real Republicans are already that bad, you know. Just look at DeSantis, the Great White Hope to follow #45 now that it looks as if he might be convicted of something…
I am terrified this strategy is going to bite them in A@@ hard!! The Michigan democratic party has seriously doubled down on this strategy. But Republicans have yet to really get any meaningful comeuppance from abandoning any attempt of ethics and embracing Satan and all his ways. So maybe this is the way to be successful.
Where was this outrage when Republicans were told to vote for Bernie in the 2016 West Virginia primaries?
Pete Meijer would have cast all the same votes that John Gibbs will cast, if he beats Hillary Scholten in MI-3. If Republicans take back the House, we can look forward to 2 years of the likes of Jim Jordan & Matt Gaetz acting as carnival barkers for their circus committees.

I’ve never been a fan of this type of “ends justify the means” political skulduggery. Be careful what you ask for…

Let’s look at the last few president elections.
Biden was too old to win.
Trump was too crazy.
Obama was too black.
GWB was too stupid.
(That’s as far back as I can remember.) So yes, making sure your opponent has an unelectable candidate seems like a sound strategy.
