Most vegetarians I know don’t like the smell of cooking meat

Only if they started out as meat-eaters and only for a while. After that, meat starts to seems disgusting, especially if you go back and taste it. There’s a level of greasiness that you’re used to when you eat it, that is just stomach-churning when you don’t.
