Is this the new mantra to discredit electric cars and, god forbid, try to keep our livable planet livable? “If we have electric cars they will crash the grid and no one will have any electricity.” Sheeeesh…. Just because it’s different doesn’t make it bad, just progress (oops, another thing to fear /s).

Charging an electric vehicle is like leaving an electric stove and oven on high all night.

Kirby close up with poppies behind close croppedmistercatworks less than a minute agoMy neighbors responded to a 5-day “heat crisis” in out coastal town by buying a portable air conditioner. Yes, it got up to 80 horrible degrees here. Now they have to run it when it gets as high as 70 to justify the expense and I have to listen to it running.

    These are young healthy people.

I live in Los Angeles and in the last heat wave the power grid couldn’t keep up. I had a volt meter plugged into one of the sockets and I was watching the voltage drop down from 110 VAC, to 100 VAC, then down to 95 VAC. It was interesting to see which appliances worked at the lower voltages (fans, but they turn slower) , and which ones just pretended to work (AC units, which just turned into fans). Then it suddenly dropped to 33 VAC, and nothing worked! Good times….
