We drove through Death Valley during a family trip in ’59. Dad made the crossing at night, daytime temps were in the 120s. Now, as Jack draws, that seems like a cool day.

We were expecting record high temperatures, but the wildfire smoke blocked enough of the sun that it was merely too hot.

Just don’t run the air conditioner because there isn’t enough electricity to go around. The governor even asked everyone to refrain from charging their electric vehicles.

We sweltered and thanked God we don’t live in Florida where the humidity makes the heat so much more worse.

Mr. Ohman apparently works in Sacramento, where last week they had their hottest September day in recorded history (116 deg. F).
