I would really like to see some earth photos from 1969 to compare with earth photos taken during this up coming moon landing mission. Wouldn’t you be curious?
Our pale, blue dot is beautiful up close like that. I remember one of the first astronauts remarking on the absence of borders. Just one entire planet, shared by one race of humans.
Interestingly at this rate, Earth will still be there long after Humans aren’t. Just decomposing litter upon the landscape, swallowed by time with the exception of curiosities that may be found by future archaeologists, whatever they may be.
NASA ls a government bureaucracy, whose main interest is to keep up the funding. High profile, big expensive projects like this mean plenty of money for NASA. What can a man on the moon do that a robot can’t do better, at much less expense?
I remember reading the old Heinlein stories set on the moon and was very disappointed we never did anything with it. It would have been fun to drink an “Earthman’s Downfall” in the Earthview Room of the Luna City Hilton—but we don’t live in that timeline…
It’s scary to think that the Average Laptop has MORE COMPUTING POWER then the computers on the Apollo Spacecraft. But without the Space program, our computer technology would be about 30 years or more behind where it currently is.

It still does. Humanity and all our problems are a mere grease mark on Gaia. We’ll be lucky if she doesn’t kick us off.

Well, Breeny, maybe if your views were a bit more consistent you’d be considered a contributor for good.
