Puzzle math questions like that are the worst. The hardest part is trying to figure out what they want.

Heart has 2 options. A: Make her mom do it since she’d “rather do homework than pay bills” or B: Don’t do the homework. And if those 2 don’t work, then use Elgoog or whatever it is in their universe.

I’m always surprised when people say that the lessons they took in school were useless.

Yet, every single day we use estimation, as this problem, if solved visually, would be.

Every single day we use language, algebra (driving to work or an appointment), or apply scientific method (cooking), etc. …

Then there are people who say they “hated” calculus, and here they are using it every single day, without knowing it…

Anyway… The problem is, the way I see it, that maybe people had very bad teachers who never taught them how all that math, as it is the subject today, is applied to one’s daily life. I had really good teachers long time ago.

City A and City B are 600 miles apart. A train leaves City A traveling 50 miles an hour at the same time another train leaves City B traveling 25 miles an hour. When do the two trains pass each other and at what distance are they from each city?

    a) 8 hours later; the trains meet 400 miles from City A and 200 miles from City B

    b) 24 hours later; the trains meet 600 miles from City B and 1200 miles from City A.

    c) The trains never meet

    d) There is not enough information to constrain the result. Next question!
