If I was a corporate CEO, I’d give this cartoon an A+!

“You go, Steve! Keep distracting people from my record profits while harping about “inflation!” <Nudge, nudge, wink, wink!>"

The Fed doesn’t have much in the way of tools. And what they DO have works very slow… and cuts both ways. Still, that’s what they’ve got, and they’re using it.

Who raises prices to cause ‘inflation’? The ‘iron fist’ is not ‘act of God’!

It’s a good thing that the average American driver is driving the most fuel efficient vehicles made rather than those gas-guzzling supersized SUVs. It’s also wonderful that as Xi’s lockdowns make some items scare, there is no hoarding.         /s

Whatever steps the Government takes may be ineffective, at least for a time. The important thing is that the public sees that they are doing something, which will help slow inflation right there.

What we need here is another Trump-like infusion of 2 trillion dollars into the economy for no apparent reason. That should cure inflation.

Trump is setting up for a run in 2024. Of course, that seems deranged at the current time. But since we didn’t have sunshine and lollipops on January 21st, the media started picking at Biden’s administration. Mistakes were made, and they will highlight them instead of the good being done— because they get better ratings. And, frankly, because we need to know about those mistakes.

Trump’s plague didn’t magically disappear when Biden took office. It was out of control.. The way to make a plague disappear is to never let it get out of control in the first place. Trump cut the team that Obama set up to do that out of the 2018 budget.

We also have a financial mess crated by Trump’s failure to manage the pandemic, or even make a legitimate effort to do so. This is going to take years and a massive effort to correct. We were lucky to avoid another great depression, and the economy is going to be messed up for much longer.

The Republicans have created messes every time they have had the White House in my memory, which means that we can’t make any progress because the entire Democratic administration has to be dedicated to repairing the damage. Since we will still be digging out of the mess the Republicans left in 2024, there is a good chance that people will be stupid enough to put them back in the White House, so they can create more mess for the next Democrat to get stuck with

Every time I read one of these cartoons it reinforces the fact that the right does not get economics.

Yes, inflation is complex. The Fed can only do so much. But there are other factors, like windfall profit taxes, that could (theoretically) help.

A little context is needed for this cartoon. To see how the Fed, under Volker, reduced the Nixon, Ford, Carter era inflation by increasing the federal fund rates significantly, please see – https://www.federalreservehistory.org/essays/anti-inflation-measures. To see the high inflation rates from 1973 to 1982, see: https://www.usinflationcalculator.com/inflation/historical-inflation-rates/ (An additional observation – our current inflation looks like the 1977/78 rates)

Wall Street is fighting against higher interest rates. They borrowed a ton of free money. Seems kind of odd though, since Wall Street types always warned about regular folk facing Moral Hazards when getting a benefit, that they would face the same Moral Hazard and fail totally.

It appears to me from others on this site and comments in other places, Those against what Democrats and what they are working towards, would be for most of the programs and goals,….., if the Republicans did it.

I was going to reply to Muddy but it just doesn’t matter. Muds thinks that any Dem is bad and won’t listen to any dissenting opinions. A hallmark of today’s Republican party.
