Lot of mystery here. Is there something funny in this story that I haven’t been following? Or even heard of before this?

“The NBA gives the money to charity” and then the NBA uses the gift as a tax shelter.

The “NBA Owners’ Assistance Fund” is a very worthy charity, helping poor, deprived owners of NBA teams to make ends meet.

Tampering with another team’s player is a bigger crime than a quarterback “tampering” with a woman?

As Moe once said to Shemp—“One of us is nuts and it can’t be you”.

Did you know Bob Feller once walked 208 men in a season?

Try getting a job today with that statistic.

His point about the luxury tax is valid, though. If you draft and develop a player and he becomes good enough to command a superstar contract, you shouldn’t be penalized if you pay him what he’s worth. The Warriors had the highest payroll in the NBA in ‘21-’22, and they paid almost as much in luxury tax as in actual salaries, but Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green* have never played for any other team. If you want to go out and buy a LeBron James or a Kevin Durant, sure, expect to pay a sur-tax. But when they’re home-grown, you shouldn’t take an extra hit to keep them.

*Draymond wants a max contract this year; he may not get that, but he’ll probably still be a Warrior. He’s more valuable for them than he would be for any other team…unless it’s worth $100,000,000 to some other team simply to break up the Warriors’ core.

The NBA believes that “charity begins at home” and, thus, keeps the donation to distribute amongst themselves.

Be nice to have a reporter dig into this one like the one who tracked down That Candidate’s LIE about contributing a million dollars to ‘veterans’.
