This type of lack of freedom is totally fine according to the same people who had a major meltdown because they couldn’t get a haircut during a pandemic lockdown.

We watch fireworks from our home, garden hose ready, in case our “patriotic” amateur pyrotechnic neighbors set something on fire.

This cartoon reminds me of a similar one which appeared some time ago. Don’t recall which cartoonist, but I think it was one of the conservative ones.

Seven people lost their lives so that one person could enjoy his ‘right’. That is very, very wrong.

Soon, hiding in your home won’t save you. Some nut-case will dress up as a Girl Scout – Halloween comes to mind – and shoot you as soon as you open your door.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. There is a certain portion of this society that has no regard for human life. Whether through gun violence or COVID, they just don’t care if other people — lots of other people — die. All those lives mean nothing to them. That portion of society almost universally votes Republican.

This is more true than funny. Slowly, imperceptibly, the fear of shooters is permeating American society and affecting an increasing number of peoples’ social decisions. Some stay home; others feel they must carry deadly weapons whenever they leave the house. By what standard is this a functional society?

Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave…that people are too frightened to leave.

Now let’s hear from some Conservatives who will claim that the USA is the freest country in the world.

Wouldn’t trust most folks who set off fireworks with even a glowstick. The T*rd Reich has no problem at all putting firearms, especially high-powered rifles and pistols into the hands of nutjobs who have posted violent threats and have past incidents of violent and/or insane behavior, and who shouldn’t be trusted with a SuperSoaker. Y’all see the problem?

Maybelline Oopsie and the Squiggler gonna be getting 3rd rate face tats like their latest hero. If y’all wouldn’t trust those yayhoos to watch your dog while y’all went away for the weekend, why the he’ll y’all putting up with this crap of lettin’ those racists and fascists on crack and meth gettin’ to own even something that’s fire a spitball? Tell congress to get its crap together or vote everyone of those toads out and find folks who will.

The rest of the world has gun laws that have dropped mass shooting rates successfully and yet allow hunters and others in firearm sports to still shoot. Telling y’all otherwise is a lie.

Just get a bullet proof house like Wayne LaPierre, head of the NRA, he knows what bullets can do to a body.

We went camping in a national forest so our dogs would not be terrified by all the booming and banging of the fireworks in our town. But, then to come home and see the carnage of shootings, the old, the children terrorized, families ripped apart by senseless gunfire. I love my country and all the good it has done, but it makes my eyes leak to see how the hate and intolerance, and mindless tearing down of the norms our Constitution has protected us with. We are but an election or two from destroying what has made this a great country, and elected officials have and are violating their oaths of office in order to do the destruction.

This is like the firing on Fort Sumpter — attempting to destroy the constitutional government freely elected by a majority of the people in order to keep the slavery of hate and to move it on to other states, regardless of their rejection of it.And generals, educated at West Point, and having sworn an oath to defend and protect the Constitution (not a man or a party) committing treason against their country… And half a million dead soldiers later, and all we have gone through since, making some progress, but now slipping back into the same kind of hate.

It has always been there, under the surface, but party of Trump, wants to bring out all that hate and sense of grievance, and white supremacy militias, and destroy what has been gained and what is good.

It was not a happy day for an awful lot of people who had a reason to rejoice and celebrate. My heart aches. I will vote blue and I hope all the other voters will have their votes faithfully tallied however they vote. But it does appear the red party wants to end this precious experiment in democracy.

I stayed home, because after a lot of the Republican laws taking away actual freedom, supported by a conservative leading us to destruction Supreme Court that supports such arcane and idiotic laws. I put my flag out as habit and I haven’t given up hope, but my heart really wasn’t in it this year.
