I don’t think Barney would throw Clyde under the bus. I just think he’s making sure Clyde can’t be subpoenaed to testify in some hypothetical issue he might be facing.
The only important thing is that Barney’s attorney can argue that Barney considers Clyde to be his spiritual adviser, whether Clyde accepts that or not. Whatever Clyde does, Barney can argue to have his evidence excluded as privileged. It would be up to the courts to decide.
