Update on my garage kitties. I wish I could say I’ve caught them and they are safely in my air conditioned house, but I’m not there yet. I was worried on Monday because I didn’t see any of them all day. But Tuesday morning, Mom cat was coming in the little cat door at the back of the garage. She stopped when she saw me. I could see she really wanted to come in and I was trying to talk her into coming closer. It was hot outside and I think she was eyeing the cool concrete garage floor. I crouched down behind the snow blower and kept talking to her and she finally came in and laid down on the garage floor. She never took her eyes off me, but she relaxed a little. She still stays about 6 feet away from me, but she looks less scared.

Tonight, I went out in the garage again to take them some canned cat food. I’ve been doing that every night to help lure them into trusting me more. When I got out there tonight, I saw all 3 kittens on the steps leading to the upstairs of the garage. They actually stayed and looked at me for a couple seconds before diving under the stairs. I’ve been cleaning out the garage little by little, cutting down on their hiding spots but there is still enough junk under the stairs for them to hide in. But I was able to get real close to the kittens and I even touched one, but just barely. Not enough to get a grip on it. Then I saw mom cat in the cat door again. I showed her the canned cat food I had brought out and I let her see me put it down and then I backed off. It took a few minutes, but she crept up and ate the canned food. So, I’m making progress, but not as much as I’d like.

By the way, if I’m right and the little gray tabby cat in the garage is indeed a girl (I’m sure she is since the kittens stick close to her), I’m going to name her Annie after our little girl here. Because Kitty Annie is like Ten Cats Annie, doing her best to care for her kids. Besides, I think she sort of looks like an Annie.

From yesterday’s comments to JLChi who asked, “Does anyone else ever have movie dreams? I do. Not often, but sometimes, I literally am watching a movie in my dreams. It’s odd. I can never remember too much about the movie later, but I can never place it as an actual movie. I am an old movies fanatic – I watch several on TCM almost every day- so that may be why.”

I don’t have movie dreams, but I still remember a dream I had when I was a kid – maybe around 5 years old. It actually started out with a theme song (I don’t remember the song or melody or whether is was a real son or something I made up). And based on that theme song, I thought to myself, “Oh no, this is going to be a rerun!” And it was!

I hope those kitties don’t get mad at little Oliver, it’s our boy who didn’t think it through. Yesterday’s hike turned out to be longer and more strenuous than I remember from several years ago – 6 1/2 miles round trip with a 1500 foot elevation change. And I didn’t leave until 6 so I was too warm on part of it. The 3rd lake was off the main trail so I had an hour of solitude before coming back down to several dozen backpackers, many doing the Pacific Crest Trail from Mexico to Canada. I gave a ride back down to town to a lovely young man from England who had just graduated college and was in awe of our mountains. Our town is one of the many resupply points for thru hikers picking up their next week’s food they have mailed to themselves, or shopping in Bishop for other supplies.

Viewing it might be a problem. Maybe Oliver could describe the movie to them. On another note, saw a junco, five robins, a Wilson’s Warbler, a tiger swallowtail butterfly, and a rabbit while out walking today.
