When I was a kid, our town (pop. 6500) had two daily papers, The Banner and The Graphic. Neither one had more than 3 or 4 sheets. Our paperboy would fold each one into a compact, interlocked, flat square about 5 or so inches on each side. He then pitched them onto the porch from the street as he could sail them 25 or 30 feet with good accuracy.
I used to deliver newspapers when I was younger. We had to go to each house and deliver them. In smaller, older towns you didn’t have the luxury of throwing them out of a window or having mailboxes next to the street. We had to go to each door and drop them off in a box or inside the door or under the mail box with the overhang or wherever they wanted them put. There were no other options. Yes, we got chased by animals just like the mail people did.
