Crickets would be my choice. You can listen to them to determine the night-time temperature.

we lived for a short while in a very very old house haunted by psychotic crickets. i would read the paper on the veranda in the evening and crickets would whoosh across the backyard like guided missiles, slamming into my paper. if we decided that darts would be fun there would be crickets whirring and wheeling through the air around us. we had a tv then and if we tried to watch it in the evening crickets would be crawling all over the screen…

    crickets are not fine…

I heard that the Japanese keep them in cages as pets because they consider them as good luck.

She should try keeping piranhas although it might be a bit dicey when she tries to milk on to make cheese.

My relatives were visiting family in Arizona when they found a scorpion in their house. They dropped the scorpion in a bucket of crickets, who proceeded to devour it alive

Not alligators or crickets. Something half way in between, like penguins

She’s going to let a little personality quirk make her reject crocodiles as pets?

That’s crocodilism, maybe even reptilism!! At least she isn’t prejudiced against all invertebrates.

Crickets are awful. I really, really hate crickets. I lived in a townhouse in Dallas where, for some reason, we suddenly had a cricket invasion that lasted a few years until I finally moved far away from Texas (horrible place, and not just because of the crickets). They would cover the walls outside and the noise was horrible. They would hop all over inside, too. I remember buying a pizza, opening the box, and a cricket jumping into the center of the pizza. Straight into the trash. The absolute worst was their legs, which would apparently get caught in the carpeting and pull off. I would find random cricket legs lying around and scattered dead crickets. I would know where they were by the smell. Crickets are disgusting.

Crocs are more aggressive than alligators.
