I won’t be hugging any trees today. We have 9 on the property and the smallest one is 24" diameter. I have marked one in the front pasture that the squirrels must have planted. It’s coming up 200’ feet from any other. It’s going to look great where it’s at so just a little water in a dry spell and some fertilizer a couple times this year. Once she’s over 6’ she won’t need anything from me. Live oaks are awesome. Happy Arbors Day everyone. Take nothing for granted.
I think Wilber is hugging the tree, not for Arbor Day, but to keep from falling. If all he wanted to do was hug a tree, he could do that from the ground.

I doubt if Brutus was a Tree Hugger back in the 60s. I wasn’t. While forrest management is very important, I doubt that trees, while they are a living organism, really understand a human hug, an animal sharpening its nails or a dog marking their territory. However, if it’s a symbolic sign of respect for our environment, go for it…..
Trees provide humans and animals with so much—shade, shelter, food, etc. It always hurts to see developers destroy every single tree on a lot when they don’t have to.
