Whereas the Romans didn’t have much stake in Jesus death, the Sanhedrin did hope that with his death, his movement would drift away. As it turned out, his followers were much more numerous and a terrible bunch of do-gooders.
I find it quite sad that those screaming about cancel culture are the ones doing their worst to cancel culture. I think that is called tribal behavior.
If one wants to believe these stories as they are written, they have to accept that those that killed Jesus, then started religions exploiting and mostly ignoring his teachings, but using his name always.
This cartoon is WAY exaggerated. As I understand traditional Christian teachings, Jesus would have identified more with society’s outcasts than with its enforcers. Mr. Varvel either doesn’t understand this or doesn’t care.
Crucifying him really did succeed in putting the kibosh on his teachings, allowing Paul and his successors to pervert them into a religion. (Religion in general is the perversion of spiritual teaching to serve purposes of social control.) For instance, at the last supper Jesus shared bread and wine, the means of life, and said “This do in remembrance of me.” But once he was safely out of the way, Paul wasted no time in making this a formal ritual, and even instructed that it should not be about feeding hungry people. And before too long people were killing each other over what Jesus’ lines about “this is my body/blood” meant, in relation to the Aristotle’s metaphysical concept of “substance”—never mind that the obvious point is that in sharing the means for sustaining life we are sharing our very lives.

Remember when the right wing cancel culture burned Beatles records? Now they have banned thousands of books from schools.

What a glaring example of ‘false equivalence!’

Gary do you grasp that when you attempt to do the canceling it drives others to push back in an analogous manner to what you’ve drawn?

Cancel culture is a disease that eventually will cancel everything in its path if it isn’t stopped.
