Putin finds it a lot easier to do this when it is the soldiers who are dying (about 5000 dead or captured, according to the intrawebs) and he’s being wounded only in the ego.
The knight still has a leg to stand on, but Russia doesn’t have any left. Putin’s actions and lies are hateful, horrible and appalling. The rest of the world isn’t doing much to stop him. Some even applaud his dastardly efforts. Grrrr!
@Concretionist- At first, Ukraine appeared to be powerless and losing. But I know from playing sports that you never underestimate an opponent who’s smaller than you!
One of his own will get him….they’re already plotting and POOty replaced more than 1000 employees because he’s paranoid someone will try to kill him…he’s desperate and fearing for his life…..
It seems that Russia regularly sends in poorly trained conscripts to be mowed down — but he does his most lethal damage though missiles. He has no problem bombing a city to rubble, wiping out the entire population. He has no problem losing thousands of Russian soldiers, either. As long as he gets what he wants — and he wants a lot.
I’d be fine with being proven wrong, but right now this cartoon, and most of the comments, look downright delusional.
What worries me is that this ""Russia is losing" meme may be part of a plan to launch a false flag chemical attack, like in Syria, with the goal of further entangling NATO in this mess.
Is the Russian military “blooding” its military and holding back the experienced soldiers. Appearing weak to gain an advantage. War game theory and Sun Tzu might indicate the proper conclusion.
Love the Monty Python and the Holy Grail reference! While it’s indeed easy for Putin to have his war in Ukraine when young Russians (many of whom don’t want to fight) are dying instead of him. His hero, Josef Stalin, had no qualms invading Hungary in the 1950’s for the same reason. But Stalin ultimately passed and went to “the other place”. And Putin will ultimately kick off as well. After he’s gone someone else will claim to be master of the universe, and another after him (or her as the case may be). Remember the poem by Percy Shelley, “I am Ozymandis, King of Kings. Look upon my works, ye mighty, and despair!”
Until recently, I knew that the esteemed Mr Volodymyr Oleksandrovych Zelenskyy was a actor and comedian that was elected president of the Ukraine, and little else.
What I didn’t know was he’d written and starred in a sitcom about an Ukrainian everyman, a history teacher who, in a private rant about Ukrainian society and politicians. – Think:
“I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it any longer.”
- was unknowingly recorded by a student who put the rant on YOUTUBE, and it went viral – in Ukraine. Reports state some 79% of Ukrainians watched it. And the next election had him elected by the Ukrainian people, which shocked the ruling class – as well as Mr Zelenskyy.
The sitcom, entitled, “Servant of the People” somewhat mirrored actual events – Mr Zelenskyy then went to his new job and, after seeing the waste and corruption within “the ruling class” – set out to dismantle it.
It is genuinely hilarious – and humbling at the same time – showing an honest man railing against the evils of “the ruling class”. It has elements of the movie, “Dave” – the movie “Network” – and the sitcoms “Yes, Minister” and “Yes, Prime Minister”.
And now available to stream on NETFLIX!!!
It’s in Ukrainian with English (and Russian!) subtitles. I’m not crazy about subtitles, but,
Although the cartoon by Mr. Bennett is cute and invokes fond memories of Python movies and skits through the years, Russia is more akin to a wounded rattler than a delimbed comedic knight, and orders of magnitude more dangerous.
The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, by a Serbian nationalist in Sarajevo, Bosnia in 1914 went essentially unnoticed in large parts of the United States (we were largely “isolationist” after the owner of the Los Angeles Times started and America won the “Spanish-American” War in the closing days of the Nineteenth century – the slogan, “Remember the Maine” played well and sold papers until examination of the Maine’s hull showed the explosion was “outward”; not “inward”).
The First World War was started by a declaration of war between Austria-Hungary and Serbia
But the interlocking series of national and international treaties that bound Europe and the rest of the world together eventually pulled us into what turned into a world war, so the war between Ukraine and Russia needs to be monitored very carefully.
Especially since “Middle America” feels much more of a kinship with the Ukrainians than they ever did with the Vietnamese, the Kuwaitis, the Syrians, the Iraqis or the Afghanis.
