The ones feeling “pain at the pump” are the ones who were so thrilled to be driving off in their gas-guzzling behemoths to enrich corporate OILigarchs — corporate or foreign economic terrorists.
Those of us who plug our electric vehicles into our solar panels smile and wave as we drive past the guy changing the price signs at the gas stations. We are the ones who are least impacted by prices at the pump. We only see the INDIRECT cost increases due to increased shipping and transport expenses.
The reality is that these are not merely the PUTIN gas price increases, but the result of CORPORATE GREED, PRICE GOUGING and PROFITEERING during a crisis.
The corporate OILigarchs are enjoying record profits that far exceed the rates of inflation. This is based on PROFITS, not inflation, or their profits would be commensurate with other inflationary factors. This is more akin to someone charging $100 for a bottle of water during a disaster such as a wildfire, hurricane, flood or tornado, which would be illegal.
Further proof? Gas being sold now was refined from crude previously purchased at lower prices long before Russia invaded Ukraine.
This ain’t no joke, the ones who will feel the high gas prices the most are all of those driving large pickup trucks, you know, the ones that make it really hard for us the compact car drivers to see if it is safe to make a turn because when they park close to a corner, it becomes harder to see incoming traffic, or when they are driving behind you with their annoying high lights, they blind you and you can’t wait for them to change lanes or go somewhere else; but they drive them because: #1 They feel safer on the road, #2 They are more convenient for large cargo which we almost never see them use or #3 They give them a higher status in society… No, I don’t have issues with large trucks, or do I?… BWA-HA! BWA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HAAA! Okay, time for my meds!
can’t say I have any sympathy for the guy in the 62000$ pickup truck which has by the way never hauled anything except a beer cooler. Yes, I have a biggish truck, but it also hauls it’s own weight in tools and materials I also don’t use it when I don’t need it.
I wouldn’t have used an actual brand name…but. My vehicle is larger than some cars but gets better gas mileage than those vehicles. I’m not going to drive a microcar: not the way people drive like maniacs. Overall, this is on Putin the evil f***.
Must be Squiggles is still packing for its ride to see the Ukraine in a BTR and hasn’t rushed off to the front quite yet. All the other brave *ucker Carlson troop 666 of Meal Team Six mall ninjas were supposed to have already been on their merry way to go help their puppet master Pootin’, just as soon as they finished selling their cookies at the mall. Well, until the real brownie troop girl scouts beat ‘em all up and sent them cryin’ on their way back to their mom’s basement.
So save some oil for it. That tar in the “tar & feathers” for Squiggles is also a petroleum product.
The Jack in the Box antenna ball is a small, but brilliant, touch. I am glad I was not drinking anything while reading. I would have laughed it all over the keyboard.
Faux and its ilk, meanwhile, have been bashing Biden for (among other things): still pushing the U.S. to adopt alternative energy sources (which needs to proceed), preventing the patriotic oil companies from being able to drill, baby, drill (nothing stopping this except reassessment of leases on sensitive federal lands), and shutting down the Keystone pipeline (all of whose oil is destined for export). In reality, the U.S. is a net exporter of refined petroleum products, folks, stuff that isn’t being used in the U.S. except to make oil companies richer.
“People who believe gasoline prices have never been so high are suffering from what economists call “the money illusion.” Gas would have to get to nearly $7 a gallon to match the 30 cents per mile of 1980 and 1981.” [www.marketwatch.com]
Where I live, over 3 miles from the nearest pavement, a 4X4 is actually needed sometimes just to get in and out of my property, especially during the Winter, but that said, we DO have a bunch of loons and Mall-Mashers who live in town with gigantic lifted trucks that never get the tread on their 36" tires dirty…and they like to have contests to see who can have the biggest exhaust pipes.
I like Mr. Jones (I’m in a formal mood today) partly BECAUSE of his style, yet also because he always makes excellent points. (People who don’t read the blogs are missing out.) It baffles me how many people are so completely ignorant of Econ 101. (Montana Swill leaps to mind…..) I won’t even mention the butterfly effect!
Shell says: Shell has already said that it intended to exit its joint ventures with Russian gas giant Gazprom and its related entities, and it stated over the weekend that it would commit the profits from the discounted Russian oil to a fund dedicated to humanitarian aid for Ukraine. [Better keep a close eye on this commitment… oil companies are notorious for greed.]
I remember a time (I believe it was in the 1980s) when Ford offered a “unique” cure for the problem for the inability for “gas guzzlers” to travel very far on a tank of gas – OVERSIZED gas tanks – that’s right, folks, for a while you could order your full-sized Ford, Mercury or Lincoln with a 35-gallon gas tank – problem solved (sorta).
I love my big Pick-ups; one reason is they last a long time with plenty of room for my Assault Weapons. My Ford Super Duty is 20 years old my Chevy 3/4-ton 4X4 is 14 years old. With the price of new vehicles through the roof spending an extra $25 a tank is nothing compared to $50,000 on a new Hybrid. Now that we are both retired our driving is down to less than 200 miles a week.
Saw another idiot with his “rolling coal” pick up—fortunately I was five cars back- not only is it rude, excessive and just plain stupid, it is really bad for the health of the people around you. More than a few trucks caught fire because they didn’t quite get all the fittings installed correctly and things caught fire…..

Absolutely no sympathy for those who drive a gas guzzler. Unless it is truly necessary for business. :ile truckers. Carpool does not apply.
